Markus Redeker<p>“There is no algorithm on the Fediverse” — Yes, I understand what it means. And no, as all people here with knowledge of computer technology know, there are lots and lots of algorithms in the Fediverse that keep it running. The difference between the two uses of the word “algorithm” is that in the quoted sentence, the algorithm is understood as patronizing, while the algorithms that run the Fediverse are meant as helpful.</p><p>So, has nobody ever found a word specific for a patronizing algorithm, or could invent it now? (I would call a helpful algorithm a “tool”, at least in some circumstances, but maybe there is a better word too.)</p><p>(<span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://social.growyourown.services/@FediTips" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>FediTips</span></a></span> <a href="https://social.growyourown.services/@FediTips/114060703426100409" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">social.growyourown.services/@F</span><span class="invisible">ediTips/114060703426100409</span></a>)</p><p><a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/Algorithm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Algorithm</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/Language" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Language</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/Words" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Words</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/AskFedi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AskFedi</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fediverse</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/PleaseBoost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PleaseBoost</span></a></p>
