Julian Raufelder<p>Okay, it's not that old yet, but <a href="https://github.com/kmonad/kmonad" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">github.com/kmonad/kmonad</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> is the best tool I've come across this year.</p><p>With <a href="https://mastodon.vhome.info/tags/KMonad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KMonad</span></a> you can map any key on your keyboard to any other key, key sequence or even command. It's also super easy to define and use multiple keyboard layouts, and you can jump back and forth between them.</p><p>An extremely useful tool 😍</p>

Minux<p>Forgot to promote the video but I have a video on kmonad which is a better solution than using xmodmap.<br /><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/kmonad" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>kmonad</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>windows</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/macos" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>macos</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/xmodmap" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>xmodmap</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/colemak" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>colemak</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/dvorak" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>dvorak</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/keyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>keyboard</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/qmk" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>qmk</span></a><br /><a href="https://youtu.be/8t5qAXsKLZg" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">youtu.be/8t5qAXsKLZg</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
nm0i<p>Someone™ pointed out to me that <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/kmonad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kmonad</span></a> [1] is a lot more lispy than <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/keyd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>keyd</span></a>, overlays devices by paths and overall has larger community. While keyd is a way to have universal system-wide config with different layouts this is a solution more suited to building <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/emacs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>emacs</span></a> macro organs.</p><p>[1]: <a href="https://github.com/david-janssen/kmonad" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/david-janssen/kmona</span><span class="invisible">d</span></a></p>
Patrick Poitras :nixos:<p>Got angry at <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/xmodmap" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>xmodmap</span></a> which broke during a recent <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/opensuse" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>opensuse</span></a> upgrade. Replaced it with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/keyd" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>keyd</span></a>, which has been much more stable. </p><p><a href="https://github.com/rvaiya/keyd" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">github.com/rvaiya/keyd</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>Considered <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/kmonad" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>kmonad</span></a>, which has an attractive s-exp based config language, but the toolchain wouldn&#39;t compile properly.</p>
nnungest<p>@nicyoung@hachyderm.io you need <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/keyd" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>keyd</span></a> or <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/kmonad" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>kmonad</span></a> . Keyd has an example in their repo for exactly this. </p><p><a href="https://github.com/rvaiya/keyd" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">github.com/rvaiya/keyd</span><span class="invisible"></span></a><br /><a href="https://github.com/kmonad/kmonad" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">github.com/kmonad/kmonad</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
