Kevin Gamin
Can I Write This Down?

Yes, I do see the irony with writing using a keyboard and connected device about writing things down in a paper and pen setup, but grant me a little leeway on this one, OK?

This subject came up for me while I was watching YouTube videos about journalling. I have been attempting to journal using the Bullet Journal method for some time now. I’ve never been able to find a system or method which works for me and allows me to stay with journalling on a regular basis. I’ve tried using various […]

https://medi-nerd.com/2025/07/23/can-i-write-this-down/

Journalling is nice but tough to stay consistent. I tried but after a few months slacked off. Need to restart again.

I got this One Line A Day journal for Christmas and I’ve been #journalling in this consistently since the 1st day of this year.

It’s already fun to look back into it. I wonder how it’ll be after 5 years.

But I think I may have found my #journalling solution.

#PocketNotebooks !

Like a notebook that is about the size of my phone that can fit in my pocket and be with me at all times.

I've been trialling it out for a few days now and I freaking love it.

Anytime a thought comes up that I want to take note of, I reach for it, add a quick timestamp (eg 1354 for 13:54) and write.

I've stopped reaching for my phone in quiet moments to keep me amused, and have even come up with a little icon system to help me get a quick overview of the notes in there.

I got the idea from this from this video on YT, which I found quite inspiring.

When I have tried using my phone for #journalling I often ended up finding myself very quickly doomscrolling. Also because of the speed at which I could write with predictave text, I would never actually take the time to process any of the thoughts I was having, so was left very unsatisfied with that form of #digitalJournal

🧵 - thread 2/3

I've been trying for years to become someone that 'journals'. For the cosiness of it; for recording moments from my life; and for the mental health aspects of being able to process and assess the validity of my thoughts.

Most of my attempts have failed, (although the one type that went on the longest was #BulletJournalling , but that descended into spending all my time trying to make it pretty and not actually writing stuff. It was really just a glorified to-do list after a while).

Most of the time these efforts failed because when a thought arose, I was often not in the vacinity of my physical notebook, or not near my computer (when I have attempted digital #journalling ) ....

🫣 I accidentally bought a pen.. it happens!

In the ten years that I’ve been into the pen hobby, I’ve never had a Kaweco Sport and recently I’ve been contemplating remedying this fact

(Never owned a Safari either.. maybe the next on my list?)

👨🏻‍⚖️ Saw this pen on eBay for a good price, put a bid and forgot about it until I got a notification telling me I won the auction!

Have you ever ‘accidentally’ bought a pen?

Looking for beta tester(s) for an open source project I'm working on called Tree Of Life. It enables visualizing your "life history" as a series of periods of different kinds, e.g educations, homes, hobbies etc. Star this post if you want to give feedback!

Bedtime! But…

Lately, people are actively telling me how they perceive me and it's so weird. I'm not complaining, mind you. It's nice to be complimented in these ways, it feels good, it just seems really odd that it's happening so much all of a sudden. #journalling #diary #nonbinary

My favourite journalling app (actually it has been the only one I have used for a very long time) has brought in some very neat updates to the iPad which I am enjoying lately

The founder of DayOne app has shared a video showcasing the updates:

Also noting, the windows version of the app also recently released.

Random thought, maybe along with my journalling DayOne can be my notes app as well. Its E2EE, its everywhere and its a joy to use 🤔🤔🤔

Isn’t That What I’m Doing?

I'm now 42, and I still have almost everything I've ever written... ...I would, in a rare private moment, write on a scrap of paper or back of a receipt, just to release some pressure... ...If the car is still intact (unlikely) it might still be there! #writing #journalling #life #diary #blogging
