After putting off installing a reverse proxy for a very long time, and as a consequence only being able to run #Snikket from home, I've finally taken my next step in #selfhosting, and successfully installed #Caddy
Turns out it was *far* easier than I thought. It took a little of trial and error, but in essence it was as simple as:
- updating the port forwarding in my router
- creating a Caddyfile using the sample configuration provided in the Snikket Operators Guide
- changing the default Snikket ports as per the Snikket Operators Guide
- updating my firewall rule set with the changed Snikket ports
Presto!
A massive thank you to @caddy for creating this impressive piece of software. I've battled with #nginx for someone else in the past. While I got it working, the complexity of it went way over my head, which is why I was dreading going down the reverse proxy route again.
Next step: #jitsimeet (hopefully!)
Exciting update! Openfire Pade plugin v1.8.4 now supports AV1 codec!
While upgrading Jitsi Meet code remains challenging, this release brings improved P2P call performance.
Check it out and consider self-hosted Jitsi Meet for larger groups.

@debby #Mumble, #IRC, #XMPP (+OMEMO = @gajim / #monoclesChat) & #Linphone (#SIP / #VoIP) are the better options. #NextcloudTalk also exist and @monocles as well as @Stuxhost offer that.
#Signal and #Session are #proprietary, #centralized, #SingleVendor & #SingleProvider solutions!
And #Matrix is just a shittier #XMPP+#OMEMO. Give @delta / #DeltaChat a try instead.
OfC #JitsiMeet and #WebCall are also great!
#JitsiMeet is an incredible, powerful, online meeting / classroom application. It's #opensource, #selfhosted. Using it with Authentication adds to it's already impressive power and flexibility. @KickDownCH nickt zustimmend
#discord & #zoom, sondern #WebCall, #JitsiMeet, #NextcloudTalk, #SIP / #VoIP (#Linphone) ...
@theverge @tech-news-theverge yeah...
Meanwhile I recommend migrating to #WebRTC like #JitsiMeet, #WebCall and espechally classic #SIP / #VoIP like #Linphone!
@TechCrunch You are missing out on #BigBlueButton and #Jitsi. I myself only know the latter, but there are (paid) hosted services for both or you (or your company) can self-host.
For private citizens and non-commercial entities around #Munich I can recommend the #free #JitsiMeet service of @freifunkMUC which is really rock solid thanks to absolute pro admins!

MS Teams has never had a good UI. The entire concept of teams and channels undermines collaboration and communication, which should be its core value proposition.
But the new UI just made it worse... Teams, channels, chats are either mixed or disappear from the top view. You get notifications and have no clue where to look for the corresponding event.
I had been working with #mattermost integrated with #jitsimeet . Worked perfectly. Until MS lobbied during pandemic.

#JitsiMeet Frage(n):

Great stuff Good Monday morning meeting via #JitsiMeet.
Trying to get colleagues and business partners to move away from Teams and Google meetings.

Do you pay Geeglo/Mixroshoft/Shroom oodles of personal data and gobs of fiat & taxpayer money, but find that your meetings are a pain to start or are still limited to sixty minutes? Aside from the fact that it's probably a good idea to try to keep your meetings short and productive (15 or 25 min is my preference) - consider using #JitsiMeet or #BigBlueButton for a more ethical, flexible, sustainable conference for you and your attendees.
Thank you to both projects for hosting my day's virtual discussions without a hitch! #opensource #appreciation
@herrorange Already existing options do that better than the old #SILK codec.
@leguinian_utopia seriously, people pay for #MicrosoftTeams when that shit is flakier than the first versions of #JitsiMeet, #Mumble & #WebCall together?
