Приветствую всех! Думаю, многим из вас доводилось слышать такое утверждение, что SIM-карта — по сути полноценный специализированный компьютер. А раз симка — это компьютер, то, очевидно, должен быть и софт для него. Как насчёт попробовать что-нибудь написать и заставить это работать прямо на карте? Давайте разбираться. Итак, в сегодняшней статье поговорим про эту довольно редко упоминающуюся сторону сотовой связи. Узнаем, как писать приложения, чтобы они запускались на всех телефонах, от Nokia 3310 до последних айфонов. Попутно выясним, как загружать их в SIM-карты и насколько сложно это сделать, и, конечно же, напишем наш первый апплет. Традиционно будет много интересного.

Working on a timelines of the events leading to the development of contacless payments. It's a lot more than I expected. I think i might have to separate this into #radio detection, #SmartCard development, #NFC development, and the integration points. Might mention #java and #JavaCard too.

Really excited to see the effort being put into accessing 7816 cards (e.g. contact and contactless cards) with a PCSC-like interface on https://github.com/WICG/web-smart-card/

It appears to be entirely driven by Google folks, which is interesting.

Seems like there was functionality to enable connecting to readers at the USB level but it was removed from Chrome in the last few years because of <handwave> "security concerns". Bummer. Not sure how the WICG effort is any different, but I hope it gets out there quickly.

Not all smart card use cases are just ID card use cases!

Looking for an alternative to #yubikey. Something with the same #fido, piv and #pgp functionalities.

So I came across something called #Trussed which aims to provide a FOSS alternative to the previously used #JavaCard. And it seems to already have applets (or equivalent) for all the features I would like to see.

Has anyone used any Trussed devices, like the #solokey #solo2 or @nitrokey 3? Would anyone be able to recommend a specific device over another, or does the hw not make much difference?

#SoloKey has released #Trussed, the FLOSS cryptopgraphy framework used by their #FIDO2 keys, but able to be extended by more apps like old #JavaCard. Written in #Rust.
