I have a fringe belief

But I think it is scientifically sound

There are 2 studies I am aware of, of prefectures in Japan, and counties in Texas. Showing that higher levels of natural lithium in the ground water led to lower levels of suicide, homicide, drug abuse, mental health issues, domestic violence, etc. Adjusting for other variables

I say we should be supplementing table salt or municipal water with #lithium, like we do with #fluoride and #iodine

Iodine deficiency is coming back!

"Without iodine, the thyroid gland cannot produce hormones that enable the human body and the brain to develop properly. Iodine deficiency causes goitres (swellings in the neck) and can cause a 15-point drop in IQ."

#iodine is used for a multitude of #health problems? Everything from #healingwounds, #diseases, and killing off #bacteria and #viruses. Iodine was once a conventional #medicine. Many are under the impression that we get enough iodine from iodized salt. Many people today are #iodinedeficient #Americans today have cut back on table salt usage. Today's #foods and #drinks have #chlorine, #fluoride, and #bromide, all block iodine receptors. Even some foods block iodine, such as #soy and gluten.

Professor Hercus, of the Medical School of Otago, … is carrying out investigations into the #iodine content of soil and vegetables in various parts of New Zealand.… valuable information … indicating the districts [to] be concentrated upon for … prophylactic measures.
The School Medical Service of the Health Department is this year undertaking the administration of minimal doses of iodine preparations to school children in specially selected areas. This work, which has been under way for two or three years, has produced satisfactory and encouraging results. Lately, in the food and drugs regulations recognition was made of the fact that the addition of iodine to common salt is a most useful means of prophylaxis…. A regulation has been introduced allowing the sale of salt containing iodine.… the use of iodised salt may be made compulsory in certain districts….
