@BBCRD@social.bbc Would love to see some of your shows, iPlayer, BBC News, Weather... Just anything else come from your Mastodon instance.

You are testing the grounds for the Fediverse but seemly not putting much into it, there are already some bots that post your BBC articles on here. So obviously there are people looking for your content.

I understand that the teams to do with those projects need to be contacted and will be the ones to maintain and post up but it will be amazing to see more than the 4 accounts on the instance after 2+ years of you testing the ground.

An interesting article on the problems of the Fediverse by @niccolove@fosstodon.org .

https://thelibre.news/fosstodons-drama-reveals-a-much-deeper-mastodon-problem/

It is very long, but the concluding paragraph is interesting.

> .... I believe that we should be particularly careful in how we structure the federated open internet, as handling it is a difficult task that should be split between multiple, well-paid, skilled actors.

It would be nice, but that would clearly mean either subscription fees or advertising. And this would open it up to commercial operators. It could be open source, but not "Free" in the same way that the Fediverse is today.

LibreNews · Fosstodon's drama reveals a much deeper Mastodon problemWe should be a bit more careful in how we structure the federated internet.

Just found out about the drama... Good writeup by @BryceWrayTX

After researching other on mastodonservers.net/servers/top, the top Mastodon servers alternatives for me are (updated): @hachyderm @vmstan and @milan

Will decide soon which server to migrate to... Just realised the content won't be transferred when moving servers. 😐

An interesting article about cosocial.ca/ by @timbray - If you're interested in running community services, you should read it.

They take Canadian paying customers only (50 Can$), got 200 ppl after 2y and will hire their first paid employee soon.

Shameless plug:
info.graz.social is also providing paid memberships which supports efforts to educate the masses about #Fediverse and #decentralization for people in and around #Graz (and I'm part of @wir). Meet us at #GLT25 on April 26: linuxtage.at/en/

Consider a membership or a donation to your team of choice that runs a #communityservice! 🙇

#ThoughtfulMastodonInvitations

These days when I ask someone to join me on Mastodon. I like to pair that ask with a recommendation for a great server to join. Obviously they are very welcome to go down a rabbit hole themselves and pick out one themselves, but in my experience a thoughtful recommendation of a suitable server or two really helps them to actually step across and to feel supported in the process.

I see it as this 'first account' divide, once in and playing around, people get much more confident either bedding in with where they started or making additional accounts on other servers, for themselves or their projects/orgs.

It's sort of like recommending a good place to go for dinner or a good wine or movie suggesstion.

Do you have certain mastodon servers you recommend to particular people, would love to hear your thoughts.

Since I'm a few hours from the end of this week, I want to mention what I've done so far to #reclaim my #digital life & protect my #privacy: Use #Mullvad #VPN. Downloaded all my files from #Google #Photos, deleted everything from said service (& #Onedrive for the matter), cancelled my Google One #subscription. I installed my own #Joplin #server for my notes. Switched to #DuckDuckGo but simultaneously, testing #Searx #instances. Baby steps ahead but still, steps ahead. Next step, NextCloud.
