This gorgeous condition 10-inch record is for sale for €2 in the oldest monastery brewery in the world, at Weltenburg on the Danube in Bavaria.
The record seems super rare. I couldn't bring it with me on the bike in 30°C heat, nor could I find some cardboard to pack it in to send it home directly from the monastery. I could've bought stamps there and guessed the postal cost. I even measured the width of the mouth of the post box in the monastery cloister - it was wide enough for a ten-inch record! But the bins were empty and none of the staff would help me. They were all busy selling beer or other religious paraphernalia.
Anyone got any tips for tracking this down?
India? is the third studio album by the band Suns of Arqa, recorded and released in 1984 by Rocksteady Records. The album was produced by Suns of Arqa founder Michael Wadada. The spine reads "Suns of Arqa Vol IV - Such big ears, but still you can't see".
India? is a radical departure from the style of the previous two albums Revenge of the Mozabites and Wadada Magic. As the title suggests, this album has a strong Indian feel to its arrangements and instrumentation.
The sleevenotes for this LP include thank-yous to Adrian Sherwood, Style Scott, Gadgi, Martin Hannett, Chris Nagle and Kevin Metcalf. - Wikipedia
Ananda Shankar and His Music, released on EMI India in 1975.
"...Opener 'Streets Of Calcutta' has been covered several times (most recently by japanese wizards Kikagaku Moyo) and is still regarded as an east/west hybrid manifesto. Ananda Shankar (11 December 1942 – 26 March 1999) was an Indian musician, singer, and composer best known for fusing Western and Eastern musical styles. He was married to dancer and choreographer Tanusree Shankar. In the late 1960s, Shankar travelled to Los Angeles, where he played with many contemporary musicians including Jimi Hendrix. ...Returning to India in the early 1970s, Shankar continued to experiment musically and in 1975 released his most critically acclaimed album, Ananda Shankar and His Music, a jazz-funk mix of Eastern sitar, Western rock guitar, tabla and mridangam, drums and Moog synthesizers." - Soundohm

Can music connect our minds?
In this study we used Electroencephalogram (EEG) & showed that listening to different modes of Indian music creates unique brain wave patterns and even synchronizes brain activity between listeners!

Quite underrated song, originally sung by Shaan. I had a go at it :)
This is absolutely something else: "Raag Bhoopali | Madhuvanti Pal | Rudra Veena" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMraLrmKz1g - amazing performance on an amazing instrument.

Today I heard "Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat" for the first time. Recorded over a few days in Mumbai in 1982, the album is one of the earliest to use Roland's TB 303 synth, and arguably accidentally invented Acid House 5 years before Chicago.

#RIP Zakir Hussain.
You were not only a prodigy and a magician on Tabla. But someone who understood the universal nature of music and tried to bring the different music traditions together. A human being par excellence, who believed in the universal brotherhood, beyond language, nationality, color, religion and used his music to unite all.
You'll be remembered for ever!
