Xavier Góngora<p>Do you have any experience with or opinion about the <a href="https://social.toplap.org/tags/Hyperland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hyperland</span></a> compositor? I would like to hear about it, as it sounds awesome on paper and looks great on screenshots. I'm planning to change to a tiling window manager and wonder how it compares to other alternatives. I have tried <a href="https://social.toplap.org/tags/Qtile" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Qtile</span></a> before and liked it. I was also interested in <a href="https://social.toplap.org/tags/xmonad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>xmonad</span></a>, because it can be configured with <a href="https://social.toplap.org/tags/Haskell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Haskell</span></a>, but I'll rather focus on <a href="https://social.toplap.org/tags/Wayland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wayland</span></a> options and I think there are no ports in the horizon.</p>

Ahmed Mansour<p>Just tried Hyperland on Fedora, and it was an exciting experience full of innovative features 🚀✨.<br>Hyperland offers a unique experience with its performance and smooth interface usage.</p><p>But honestly, for me, GNOME remains the best 💻❤️. Its simplicity and system integration make it hard to beat.<br>What do you think? Atemu<p>Just discovered <a href="https://darmstadt.social/tags/libinput" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>libinput</span></a>'s <a href="https://darmstadt.social/tags/touchpad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>touchpad</span></a> drag lock feature.</p><p>As someone who prefers linear input with no speed-depedent acceleration, dragging things for wide distances always was a challenge on the <a href="https://darmstadt.social/tags/framework16" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>framework16</span></a>'s unfortunately small touch pad.</p><p>What this setting does is that it simply doesn't end the drag immediately when you let go of the touchpad, allowing you to reset your finger and continue the drag.</p><p>Normally, I don't like delays/timeouts like this because they add friction to using a computer; making the UI feel slow. This one's timeout is higher than I'd like too and it's not configurable either :/<br>However, they thoughtfully made it so that tapping immediately ends the drag motion which makes it feel quite responsive again.</p><p>In <a href="https://darmstadt.social/tags/Hyperland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hyperland</span></a>, you can enable this feature using:</p><p>input::touchpad::tap-and-drag = true</p>

Thor A. Hopland<p>I think <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/Cosmic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Cosmic</span></a> is more comparable to <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/Hyperland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hyperland</span></a> than to <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/GNOME" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GNOME</span></a>. Hear me out.</p><p>After a couple of weeks using Cosmic Epoch, I am thoroughly impressed with it's performance - crashes aside (it's not even alpha yet).</p><p>Tiling and stacked windows is all good, but I have a much smoother, snappier desktop experience because Cosmic just uses less resources, which allows other applications to be snappier as well.</p><p>The difference is of course that it's going to be a fully fledged DE, app store and all.</p>
Caleb Maclennan<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://bsd.network/@lattera" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>lattera</span></a></span> only of the configuration is reasonably scriptable.</p><p>After about two decades using it I am still an <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AwesomeWM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AwesomeWM</span></a> fan at heart even after nearly a year on <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Hyperland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hyperland</span></a> and am sad the WayCooler project never took off. A good Rust based tiling window manager would be welcome, but much more so if it were properly scriptable with deep access to internals from the outset. Lua would be nice (via mlua) but Rahi might work too.</p>
