The great thing about this arrangement is that the development of each project can be flexible. So the platform is shared with all and developed with the projects' needs in mind, and then the development of #PaleMoon itself is basically like one-man, and then you get community-owned projects like #Hyperbola's Ice* projects

#Mozilla really made a mistake with making the platform synonymous with the #Firefox browser.

@jxself I've got #hyperbola #gnu reinstalled, after a brief hiatus with OpenBSD (testing hardware support), as the next release will be a deblobbed, OBSD based hard fork with new code written under the GPL and libre ports on top.
Lots of code has been removed/rebased in the kernel and they plan to port new libre filesystems to Hyperbola BSD.

@ lazarus I wish #GNUStep released a universal installer as Gnome and XFCE did back in the day. Fire, everything get installed into ~/GNUstep, you set ~/.xinitrc accordingly to run the daemons and it's done.
Specially if I could install all the companion software and the dev environments.
There's a script from Gregory Casamento, but bound to Ubuntu based distros. It would work perfectly on Trisquel 11, but not under #Hyperbola #GNU/Linux.

Back to #hyperbola with wmaker, gnustep gtk/icon theme and rox. #Guix is too slow on an atom n270 netbook with rotary media.
DilloNG, lynx, mupdf, uxterm, tmux, smu, calc, gnuplot, chicken, rlwrap, entr, mksh and tcc. Luakit for emergencies. My perfect setup. Games? Slashem, bsdgames, a floss megaman clone, floss zmachine games and csokoban.

What you need to know at this point in your learning process is simply that _around_ the Linux "kernel" there are different flavours of the "shell" part, hence different "distributions", in the jargon, of Linux-based operating systems.

You may have heard of #Debian, #Ubuntu, #OpenSUSE, #Slackware, #Arch, #Mint, #Hyperbola, #Gentoo, #Fedora, #Devuan, ...

... anyway. These were ground-up clones started in the 1990s and later.

@ascott @ska

About 3 years ago, by the way, I was pointing people who wanted to switch distributions at #Hyperbola .

I haven't kept track, because of world events, but it appears on quickly checking back today that it's still going.

But #s6 on #ArchLinux actually is an option. The PKGBUILD was last updated _last Thursday_, and the dependent packages in the AUR indicate that supporting infrastructure is also packaged, and it's not just do-everything-else-yourself.

@msw @fedora For those who have at least once worked voluntarily to a free system #Distribution / #Distro that either follows the #GNU FSDG (like those that provide some part of #GNU, such as #Dragora, #Dyne:bolic, #GuixSystem / #GuixSD, #Hyperbola, #Parabola, #PureOS, #Trisquel, #UtutoS, #LibreCMC, #ProteanOS, or those which don't, such as #Replicant) or to a #Distro that is almost there (I'm waiting your reply, #Debian) per-language managers complicated things.

Running #hyperbola #gnu/#linux in my old netbook. Jwm+Rox. Not my usual setup, but UXTerm and key bindings makes everything work closely to cwm.

No DBUS, no Pulseaudio, No Rust (Iceweasel-UXP/IceDove), No OpenJDK.
So far, I don't miss anything. Wireless works OOTB, I have a systray icon for lazy convenience, the GTK and Qt themes are integrated thru qt5ct and qt-styleplugins.
