Kris<p>TL DR: j'envisage d'investir dans un homeserver, avez-vous des conseils?<br><br>J'ai actuellement un VPS avec yunohost pour les outils que j'utilise (cette instance Gotosocial, mon site web...). Je souhaite installer une application qui n'est pas disponible sur Yunohost, et je commence à voir les limites des capacités de mon VPS (surtout la RAM). Financièrement, je n'ai pas envie de payer davantage mon abonnement pour le VPS. Du coup, je me demande si ça ne vaudrait pas le coup (et le coût) d'acheter et de mettre en place un serveur perso, un truc physique sur lequel j'installerais un OS comme Casa OS (cet OS permet d'installer des appli basées sur Docker, ce qui a l'air intéressant en terme d'applications disponibles, je n'aurais plus à dépendre de ce qui est paramétré par yunohost).<br><br>Est-ce que mon raisonnement est solide? Est-ce qu'un homeserver est difficile à gérer? Je sais utiliser la ligne de commande (faire des copier coller dans un terminal ne me dérange pas trop). Mais je préfère grandement une interface graphique. Casa OS a l'air assez ergonomique à utiliser.<br><br>Avez-vous des conseils pour choisir un bon serveur? quelle fourchette de prix je dois envisager?<br><br>Questions subsidiaires: Est-ce que la migration de mon VPS vers un homeserver est possible à partir des trucs installés via yunohost ou il faut repartir de zéro? Michael J Burgess<p>A few years ago, my dad and I bought a NAS from WD. It's been nothing but headaches ever since. Most of the time, I couldn't even get it to connect to my PC. On the rare occasions when it worked, a restart or shutdown would break it again, and none of the previous fixes would take effect twice.<br><br>Two years ago, I bought a Raspberry Pi 5. At the time, I couldn't get it working, so I gave up. But a week or two ago, I got deeply interested in Linux and discovered Ubuntu.<br><br>Exploring Linux opened my eyes to the extent of what I could actually do. For years, I've been frustrated by companies taking control and the "own nothing and be happy" idea often linked to the WEF. Now, with my Raspberry Pi, I saw a way to take back that control.<br><br>I found OpenMediaVault, Nextcloud, and GoToSocial tools that turn the Pi into a NAS and a self-hosted cloud. This setup lets us access and download our files from anywhere, completely under our control. And since I've always loved social networks but disliked the centralised giants, GoToSocial lets me run my very own one.<br><br>My dad and I decided to put our 8TB drives to good use with OpenMediaVault. But we didn't want the Pi sitting out in the open without protection. Jan<p>Seit 10 Tagen ist mein Homeserver nun schon down. Mainboard hat wohl einen weg. Hat ein wenig gedauert, bis ich den Fehler einigermaßen sicher einkreisen konnte. Ersatzteile sind leider aktuell noch im Zulauf. Bis dahin sind nahezu alle digitalen Annehmlichkeiten erst einmal weg: Nextcloud, Pi-Hole, Forgejo, Syncthing und vieles mehr. Echt doof!</p><p>Ich glaube, ich muss perspektivisch zumindest Pi-Hole auf einen eigenen Raspberry Pi separieren.</p><p>Wie macht ihr das denn: Habt ihr zuhause mehrere (redundante) Server stehen? Roberto von Archimboldi<p>So, if I had and old desktop computer lying around and a home internet connection, how easy would it be to turn it into a very basic server. I have few skills but can follow a recipe. I don't want to do anything much more complicated than having an ftp server to store files and a CalDev server. At most I might be tempted to run wordpress so that I can not blog. </p><p>Is it has simple as installing Debian, and any other software, giving the machine a static IP and then sorting out a DNS registration? I have two servers using <a href="https://mastodon.longlandclan.id.au/tags/Dovecot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Dovecot</span></a> on <a href="https://mastodon.longlandclan.id.au/tags/AlpineLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AlpineLinux</span></a> … one is my main mail exchanger for my domain, the other is a small server I use for securely storing work emails (full disk encryption enabled).</p><p>I decided to update the latter to AlpineLinux 3.22. I knew this potentially wiped out /etc/dovecot, so I took a `tar` back-up of my /etc directory.</p><p>The update bumped Dovecot to v2.4.1, and indeed wiped out /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf.</p><p>I restore my back-up, I then find Dovecot 2.4.1 does not like a Dovecot 2.3.x config.</p><p><a href="https://doc.dovecot.org/2.4.1/installation/upgrade/2.3-to-2.4.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">doc.dovecot.org/2.4.1/installa</span><span class="invisible">tion/upgrade/2.3-to-2.4.html</span></a> is the Rosetta stone you need to translate between the two.</p><p>Not difficult, but care must be taken.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.longlandclan.id.au/tags/HomeServer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HomeServer</span></a></p>
