On June 2nd (ONLINE via Zoom) we are pleased to welcome Professor Peter Brand, who will give a talk "Ramesses II and the Hittite Empire: War and Peace in the Late Bronze Age".
Ramesses II was both a great warrior and visionary statesman. For two decades he fought the Hittite Empire for control of Syria. Yet he also had the vision to make a lasting peace by concluding a treaty in his 21st regnal year. (1/3)

It is funny that your source should not travel further back in time, to at least include the time of the #Hittites and #Ramesses II, as the indicisive #BattleOfKadesh led to the first known peace treaty in 1274 BCE.

A previously unknown ancient language has been discovered. This is interesting on 2 fronts. Not only is it historically fascinating, it presents a sharp relief for some modern English speakers who either deride other languages and/or English dialects. It seems the Hittites took a great interest in minority languages within their empire.
