Dávid Bárdos<p>In the late 80's, I played my first computer games. (I wrote about it here: <a href="https://gridranger.frama.io/random-facts-about-me" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">gridranger.frama.io/random-fac</span><span class="invisible">ts-about-me</span></a>) After each boot but before playing, I had to type a magic command `mg color -c`. I was 4 so I didn't ask for why, but learned to do so. But since then, I've been thinking a lot about what was that. Google didn't help me with this one. My best guess was that it was CGA emulation command for the Hercules card in the PC.</p><p>Today, I finally cracked the mistery. I got the idea to check it on archive.org. There was no match for `mg.exe`, but there was one for `mg.com`. And here you are: mg / mgmodus a Duch CGA emulator based on its readme. <a href="https://archive.org/details/525utilities10" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">archive.org/details/525utiliti</span><span class="invisible">es10</span></a></p><p>Case closed, mystery solved. </p><p><a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/hercules" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hercules</span></a> <a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/cga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cga</span></a> <a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/msdos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>msdos</span></a> <a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/retrogaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrogaming</span></a></p>
