Flower clock at the Jardin Anglais, with thousands of flowers that change with the seasons. Created in appreciation of, you guessed it, Swiss watchmaking.

I posted a photo of the tail last week, and someone expressed interest in seeing the whole thing, so here you go.

Day 1, second train: #TGV #Montpellier - #Brussels
busy

but not next to me (aisle)
Next I'm staying overnight in #Lille. I need to be in #Harrogate midday tomorrow. #Flying from Lyon or #Geneva wouldn't have been better: starting from #Grenoble, not doable in a half day, so I'd have started today too and have had to stay in a more expensive hotel at destination tonight.

A peaceful view of the "Marais de Mategnin" on the border between Switzerland and France in Canton Geneva.
From a Swiss friend:
"Geneva is changing: because of budget cuts across the Atlantic, international organizations and NGOs are laying off hundreds of people. And since they are international employees, they are not entitled to unemployment benefits. And if they are not European, they must return to their countries. A disaster for hundreds of people and for the Geneva economy! "

PSA to my fellow #nerds who like #programming in @ruby and/or #webprogramming who would also like to visit
CERN in
#geneva — the place where @timbl invented the
#web.
If you need a reason to visit #cern, maybe also for the #largehadroncollider, then this might be it.

And keep in mind that @helvetic_ruby is switching places each year. So if you'd like to have this combo then 2025 is the year for you.
Pro tip: after you give so much space to cars, don't forget to make sure pedestrians blame it on the cyclists by banning them in lakeside parks. /s
On a positive note, an army of bats didn't seem too disturbed living in the trees along these traffic jams and flew at dusk. I had never seen so many bats at once!
In contrast, Geneva is a great example of car-centric urbanism: the waterfront space and 6-lane bridge is clogged with cars, so all you propose is a 60M€ project to build an extra pedestrian bridge, rather than simply reclaiming space back from cars.
This project was eventually rejected by popular vote in November 2024: https://www.geneve.ch/actualites/passerelle-mont-blanc-conseil-administratif-prend-acte-decision-populaire
