Wim 🅾→Ⓣ
Every year I am on the lookout for my favourite late summer flower, grass of Parnassus (parnassia palustris). The Latin name was coined by Linnaeus, likely because it's such a beautiful flower.

Mount Parnassos in Phokis was sacred to Apollo and the home of the Muses. There also lay the sacred springs of the Corycian Cave, where lived three Naiads (nymphs), the Thriae. They were named Melaina ("The Black"), Kleodora ("Famed for her Gift"), and Daphnis ("Laurel") or Corycia. Kleodora was loved by the god Poseidon and bore him Parnassos, eponym of the mountain and founder of the town of Delphi, which became home to the famous oracle, the Pythia. It was believed that the god Apollo lived within a laurel and gave oracles for the future with the rustling of the leaves. It was also said that the art of divination had been taught to the god by the Thriae, at the time when Apollo was grazing his cattle there.

#photography
#florespondence #bloomscrolling
#GreekMythology
