@talpa don't know why that would be. It depends on the full command line and circumstances, though.
For instance, when sees that the flash content is identical to the image to be written, it would skip both writing and verification.

Can it really be true that can't program a region (using a layout file) and perform a verify operation of it without reading the entire SPI flash before staring the write?

If yes is there another (command line) program for Linux (using spidev) that can?
