A drawing robot I built during my time at Tellart. The robot leaves a trace of wax on a piece of fabric that is dyed after.
The piece was a collaboration with Droog design.

Months ago I made this tube wiper- an improvement on some #neon / plasma artists designs from the 80s. I really like the #line quality you get from the wiped #phosphor tubing.

Each line is painstakingly wiped out of the inside by hand. It was nice to do in the living room, in front of the TV late at night- until I see a mist of phosphor powder float into the air of the living room. Wiped #tubes are difficult to bend.

Any thoughts on using stepper #motors to automate wiping? #drawingrobot #nyc

It’s over 10 years since I designed and built a crude but working motorised drawing machine built on harmonograph principles. I’ve always loved the practice of creating art out of procedures, whether in visual or music.
