Threat Actors Lure Victims Into Downloading .HTA Files Using ClickFix To Spread Epsilon Red Ransomware

A new Epsilon Red ransomware campaign has been discovered targeting users globally through fake ClickFix verification pages. Active since July 2025, the threat actors employ social engineering tactics and impersonate popular platforms like Discord, Twitch, and OnlyFans to trick users into executing malicious .HTA files via ActiveX. This method leads to silent payload downloads and ransomware deployment. The campaign uses a Clickfix-themed malware delivery site, urging victims to visit a secondary page where malicious shell commands are executed. The attackers also impersonate various streaming services and use romance-themed lures. Epsilon Red, first observed in 2021, shows some similarities to REvil ransomware in its ransom note styling but appears distinct in its tactics and infrastructure.

#Discord question: I'm a casual user and can still get in on my phone but on desktop where it's easier for my tired, aging eyes I get this error message about which I have no clue.

windows machine using chrome

Sending events to your Matrix Room (webhook styles)

A great usage of Slack, and then Discord was being able to have Events coming from your business into a feed alongside other conversations going, it keeps the beating heart front of mind.

In our case it’s servers advising when they are being rebuilt, code errors and customers signing up and adding new sites.

Now we’re using Matrix we needed to get these events streaming in. The way we’ve done it is:

Created a new Matrix user, ‘pureflowbot’ specifically to broker the Events […]

Hey everyone 👋👋 I'm in need of #Android users to help test my new #ReactNative app! Google requires me to "have at least 12 testers opted-in to your closed test" before they grant me production access.

I am working on a few different apps but this is my first one and its relatively simple. It's a progress tracker for the
Soft 75 challenge but I want to stress that you don't need to participate in the challenge to use my app!

If this is something you're interested in (or just want some more details) come join my
#Discord server to get access to the closed testing group! :blobcathearthug:

in the sense you mentioned Discord is transactional
It is, they just try to hide it at first to gain popularity. Its the default scheme for proprietary platforms these days. While you may think it is not based on likes and follows, it inherently is since all #Discord communities are closed off from each other, with no good means to find other ones, and all only so long as Discord (the company) doesn't find your opinions offensive or otherwise starts disliking what you do.

Don't forget, other platforms such as Facebook or Twitter are already censoring people when they talk about alternative platforms. There's nothing stopping Discord from doing the same.
like Mastodon
#Mastodon is just another means of interacting with the open protocol, #ActivityPub, and honestly not an amazing one. I would generally recommend something else, such as #Pleroma or #MissKey, which don't give off the corporate vibe and have simply better and more features.
know it’s near impossible to convince a lot of people to change platforms
That's fine, I don't want most people to be on the platforms I use. I seek them out because I care about the free and open nature of these platforms, having a lot of people that don't care about it just ruins the vibe.

Anyone who seeks them out will generally appreciate the values that are common here, and I will gladly welcome them.

Can't see the whole thread here, only a big red quote...
Sounds like your instance is blocking other instances. Generally a red flag on your admin(s).
A place that *isn't* transactional or controlled by an algorithm.
The thing is that #Discord is inherently transactional. Its a closed platform that will get worse over time, as the company owning it is trying to extract money from you.

If you truly desire a place that isn't transactional or controlled by an algorithm, I'd encourage you to find a platform that is built on open standards, which you can interact with using free software. Do it while you still can, as the walls of your garden will only get taller, and it will only get harder to find freedom.
Which piece of software is used in the end is incidental and could change any day.
It is when you resign yourself to proprietary platforms. Meanwhile, the systems built upon open standards have existed for decades, and will continue to do so. Email, IRC, XMPP, and many more. These are still the back-bone of the Internet, even if proprietary companies want to hide it from you.

@spinning_bird@mstdn.games @keirFox@tiggi.es @CursedSilicon@social.restless.systems #Discord is a proprietary platform for closed groups. The "old" internet was mostly public spaces where people gathered. Forums, IRC rooms, image boards. There were places you needed to be invited into, but the vast majority was just open spaces you could just join and find people to have a good time with.

Discord, like many,
many other proprietary chat platforms will fall in time. But the old places like IRC still exist. And it is likely to outlive whatever replaces Discord, too.
