did i brick my phone?

lemmy.world/post/28143860

lemmy.worlddid i brick my phone? - Lemmy.Worldsorry for the long text :l i was trying to install /e/ os on my moto g30, and i was doing it on my linux mint laptop. however, for some reason, everytime i tried to connect the phone to the laptop, it would display a message, something like “cannot connect to *** (think it was something like “MTG”?)”, however even thougth that message was spamming, i was able to do basically everything: unlock bootload, take the code to be able to really unlock it with motorola itself, “install” the OS (it even went all the way to the /e/ os custom recovery mode screen), however, when installing the .img files for good, it gave me some message like “cannot identify signature”(??), but even with that, it still went all the way to 100% install. however when i reboot it, it went back to the motorola welcome screen. tried to look it up, and the “mtg” error was something with the usb port. tried switching and still nothing. tried to find a solution but didnt found. so i went to my pc wich is dual booted with windows. in there, i downloaded the adb and fastboot programs, and it was recognizing the device. however, it was late at night, so i went to bed and turned pc off. today, when i tried again, the adb and fastboot commands simply does not recognize the device anymore. and i cant do anything. now i only have a “secure mode”(or something like that, dont remember) /e/ os screen, qnd the normal motorola android bs. did i brick the phone? can i delete everything (both /e/ os and motorola android) and staet again from scratch? what would be the best solution for this problem? i dont live in the USA, so buying a degoogled phone is basically not viable. and i dont have enought money to buy another phone. only have the g30 and my main one, a samsung galaxy s20fe. however i saw that basically there isnt a custom rom for the samsung, and am too afraid to do it and brick my phone (like with prob just happenned with my moto g30). any help/ advice? :l

The last stage of my long n winding degoogle is nigh. I have a lot of older and semi permanent accounts where I used my gmail address as login/username. It's a laborious process getting those changed, for perfectly understandable security reasons.

I run my own email server and it's very solid; good backup strategy etc, but... for the 'bleedin important' accounts (bank, tax etc) I will still stick to a 3rd party cloud email provider. So I have gone for disroot.org

Thoughts?

lemmy.mlE-mail forwarding - LemmyHi, [https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/ac951e6d-57a2-46b7-94cb-83c8c4dc2199.png] I know this is not exactly a pure “degoogle” but as many members of this community are looking for a gmail replacement I would like to recommend an anonymous mail forwarding service like https://addy.io/ [https://addy.io/]. I would also like to hear your opinions on this or several similar services. In case you don’t know what it does here is my short explanation: It is an email forwarding service. So basically you sign up with your (new non gmail) email address. Whenever you sign up for something you would normally use your email you use a new Addy.io [http://Addy.io] mail instead. This works on the fly without having to login to Addy.io [http://Addy.io] beforehand or even having to use a plugin or app. Let’s say I would want to sign up for Lemmy I would just type “lemmy@my_name.addy.io” in the email form. Now all mails to this address get forwarded to my real email address without Lemmy knowing it. I think this has a lot of benefits: - Additional privacy: the service I sign up to doesn’t know my mail. In case it gets hacked it is more difficult to figure out where else I signed up. - Phishing and spam protection: Mail from “my bank” to my Lemmy address saying I should change my password. I don’t think so. But now I know they got hacked or sold my data and I can just delete the alias. - switching mails: let’s say you just degoogled your mail but now it turns out the CEO of the new mail provider is a dick. Switching you mail on all the services and news letters you use again? I don’t think so. Just change one mail in your forwarding service and your good to goAddy.io [https://lemmy.ml/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Faddy.io%2F]

There’s something for everyone: chat assistants, project management tools, operating systems... you get the idea.

We’d love to hear more suggestions, anything we missed (thanks for the suggestions already), and any tools you use and would recommend (Chat GPT alternatives?)

Relearning IMAP conventions and unlearning Gmail, things I really would like to keep:
- multiple From identities with their own outgoing servers in one inbox
- labels instead of folders (because that allows categorizing same email many times)

Haven't yet found a service which does either.
#degoogle

Bin gespannt....
