A6. My last security tip is for anyone with #Ortlieb panniers.

There is a lock accessory, the QL2, to keep the panniers attached to the rack. I've just bought some and fitted them. I've not used them on a tour yet but they appear to do a good job. As you would expect, they are well designed and made, fitting easily to the bags with lots of adjustment possible.

Our valuable items stay in a handlebar bag that always comes with us when we leave the bikes unattended.

A6. The most innovative security involved a person rather than a device.

We visited the Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck in Emelgem, Belgium, where Kasteel beer is brewed. As we locked up our bikes outside before going in to start the tour, we were assured by our tour guide that our bikes would not be stolen. Our guide then introduced themselves as a local police officer!

We didn't doubt them, but we locked our bikes anyway 🙂

A6. We use Ortlieb Backroller and Sportroller panniers. A few trips ago we bought the Anti-Theft Devices.

These certainly aren't high security but when looped through the shackle of a D-lock or locked with a small padlock they would offer some means of preventing panniers being removed.

Thanks! Thinking about times when my bags couldn't practically be taken with me, I bought a PacSafe. I hoped it might fit around two rear panniers whilst on the rack, keeping them together with the bike.

It wasn't successful and I sent it back. Even a large PacSafe wouldn't fit. I almost strangled myself several times trying to make it fit 😂 I should just have accepted needing to remove the panniers. It wasn't my finest hour 😂
