Mrs Losttourist's company have their offices on the waterfront at Liverpool, close to the cruise ship terminal.

Today it seems someone has parked a very big boat there and she's sent me a photo.

And unless I'm very much mistaken there is some kind of helter skelter slide thing connecting all the decks. That's either madness or genius!

An enormous modern cruise liner, about a dozen decks tall, is moored next to a mundane looking car park. There is a complex set of tubes running vertically between many of the ship's decks.

The second full day aboard our 2017 cruise on Crown Princess was spent at sea. The North Sea has a reputation for being cold, rough, dark, and the name doesn't really help, but this was June and as you can see it can be absolutely lovely out there. We were travelling north at this time up the coast of Europe as we'd been in Belgium the day before and were on our way past the Netherlands and Germany and around the top of Denmark where we'd be stopping the day after.

Taken from a high deck at the aft of a cruise ship we're looking down diagonally across the stepped decks below us that border the aft pool of the ship, a square pool with space around it for a couple of dozen sun loungers, most occupied. A handful of loungers can also be seen on some of the terraced deck space around and above it and just in shot to our left is the edge of another small, circular pool or hot tub here in this location. The sky is bright but with a fair amount of thin sheets of hazy cloud that's diffusing the sunshine, but there's still plenty of that to warm this spot on the vessel. The sea is calm, a deep turquoise colour, and with a long wake from the ship tapering off towards the horizon as a churned, foamy trail on the sea's surface.

In another news, a fucking cruise ship is in the port. I'm afraid we're going to get a lot of them this year with the Setouchi Triennale. The mayor in his ongoing attempts to make Takamatsu an attractive regional capital is also attracting more and more cruise ships, regardless of their environmental impact (and cruise ship tourists are just the worst overall: entitlement, cluelessness, you name it)
