Arcane Cache: Review to Glittering Light 2

A ASCII art game that breaks with quite some conventions in a wonderful way. Instead of moving an @ through a maze of lines, it feels like moving through a strange, mysterious world ... a game with a limited, set scope, where the atmosphere and the fundamental idea of the game are much more important than the balance or the gameplay ... a parabola on life itself.

After the Djinni, I really struggled to get a Gargoyle Earth Elementalist to work. Eventually, one made it to XL17 and died in pain trying to capture the Shoals rune.

For a change, I then switched to an Octopode Conjurer, whose best attempt so far was ended by a Hydra at XL13 in the Lair. And I still had butterflies! I'll continue after a short break.

The log of my attempts:

The first weekend of the Crawl Tournament sees me just a little disappointed. My Djinni Alchemist from Ashenzari reached the highest XL27. One of my best games ever. But unfortunately no victory.

Djinni don't get their spells from books, but from Mother Nature. This time, she didn't provide anything that would have allowed to beat Curse Skulls. Thus, I was beaten out of Zot5 without an Orb and destroyed in Zot4.

In 10 hours, the release #tournament for Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup v0.32 will begin. For 16 days, thousands of crawl players will compete against monsters, fate and gods and for wins, badges, glory, fame and bragging rights.

I'm also taking part in the tournament. I'll be playing as #NotYourErnst on crawl.xtahua.com (CXC) and will report on my failures here from time to time.
