ha, typical. Somehow the new #System76 desktop environment #cosmicde just clicked in the past week, after on and off trying out it and window tiling and stacking. Now that I have a flow of managing my windows this way, today's Cosmic updates break the Workspaces part of the panel 😐

Too much editions of #GarudaLinux ? Never enough. There is a new one coming with the brand new Cosmic desktop developed by @system76.

La distro #Linux Garuda, basée sur #ArchLinux, propose de nombreuses éditions venant avec un DE différent. Il y en a une nouvelle équipée du nouveau bureau #CosmicDE

@killyourfm I'm really enjoying this mixtape. 🎵
Too bad I don't have my SONY Walkman (cassette player) anymore, that would have made the experience even better.

Cosmic Media Player and COSMIC DE Alpha 6 are also very enjoyable!

Thanks for sharing ^^

So, it was time again to update my Password Manager enabled #COSMICTerm branch for the #COSMICdesktop Alpha 6 release.

So if you use a lot of passwords in your terminal, this might be something for you.

Note: The passwords are stored and retrieved from your regular keyring.

I decided to try and use #cosmicde for daily work for a bit and see how I get on. The first thing I had to work around was SSH key management but that wasn't too big of an issue. Not sure if I'll stick with using workspaces, though. It's a bit of a hassle to manage so many different ways to switch between applications.

Working my way through creating various kinds of apps. Web: check. CLI: check. TUI: check.

I’d like to create a GUI next, and particularly if there’s something in the Windows/Mac world that’s missing on Linux. Or just fun. Probably with libcosmic and definitely in Rust.

Suggestions?

I have now updated my Password Manager enabled #COSMICTerm branch with the latest changes upstream. (Woho, I can click on links now!)

Does anyone know how management of secrets is supposed to work on #cosmicde ? I installed it on my Fedora machine which also has GNOME on it so I'm still using GDM and gnome-keyring is installed but either it doesn't unlock on login to COSMIC or something else is fishy. I tried interacting with Github via SSH but that didn't work automatically and I wasn't prompted for a passphrase either. On GNOME that just works.

Ok, back to #Gnome after a two weeks of #COSMICdesktop Alpha 4, and this time my gnome desktop had survived. Nice, to see that they fixed that issue. #Cosmic is making good progress and is now quite usable.
Now, on my hardware and with my setup, it is mostly minor (but still very important) things like Alt-Tab functionality, and similar things that drives me back to gnome.

So, unexpectedly good for Alpha software. Looking forward to trying the next relese of the #cosmicde.

Continued thread

No more broken services on startup now and startup is crazy fast, even from sdcard.

Notifications now make noise and pop up, but still can't get any Cosmic specific apps to launch, even though they did on the Pi400, so I continue to think this is rpi5 GPU firmware specific.

That said, I can still install and launch other things. The Cosmic terminal might not launch, but alacritty does!
