mkiol<p>If you are interested in offline <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/TextToSpeech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TextToSpeech</span></a> voice-cloning, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Coqui" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Coqui</span></a> just released new version of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/XTTS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XTTS</span></a> model. This updated model actually works and works brilliantly. You can mimic any voice by just providing a short reference sample. The result is not identical to the original, but it is very similar. The cool thing is it's multilingual, so you can clone speech from one language to another. rohdenYesterday I talked about how it's good to know that one doesn't necessarily have to rely on the giants if one needs a search engine (<a href="https://fe.disroot.org/notice/AZz1i5RhS7HLg4xRZo" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://fe.disroot.org/notice/AZz1i5RhS7HLg4xRZo</a>).<br>For TTS and STT there are also solutions (<a href="https://fe.disroot.org/notice/AYgl4U8wEPrglfZ5UG" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://fe.disroot.org/notice/AYgl4U8wEPrglfZ5UG</a>), although one still has to rely on big(ger) companies or projects that provide technologies like Vosk, Whisper, DeepSpeech, Piper or Coqui. <br><br>So I guess it's also important to have pacesetters like Mozilla collaborating on projects like Bergamot and having the corresponding infrastructure that we require as users. <br><br>There are other projects like argos (<a href="https://fe.disroot.org/notice/ASVU7OwythQGi0cDtg" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://fe.disroot.org/notice/ASVU7OwythQGi0cDtg</a>), known to many as libretranslate, with which you can get acceptable translations. However, both are not on the same level as DeepL. <br><br>No complaint here, since paid workers have different resources than FLOSS volunteers.<br>For LLM there is Open Assistant (<a href="https://fosstodon.org/@devSJR/110337305386857764" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://fosstodon.org/@devSJR/110337305386857764</a>), which is probably the closest thing to ChatGPT. Now, Microsoft will increasingly include Copilot and Google will increasingly include Bard in its products. rohdenI used the first time speech note (<a href="https://github.com/mkiol/dsnote" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://github.com/mkiol/dsnote</a>) today. This software works really well to converting text into language, respectively. To convert language into texts (STT). And the translation function is also quite reliable. The best part is that everything works offline. You only need to download the corresponding language packages, which are of course partly somewhat memory-intensive.
