#Communication

@kirschner Great article. I recently came across the term "idea bug", coined by Alberto Savoia. I think that's a nice and catchy term to describe the miscommunication between end users and developers.

And, just to take the heat off developers a little, it's not necessarily the developers' fault. Sometimes there is just too long of a communication chain between end users and developers. Information loss is inevitable along the chain.

Good #communication is key in many aspects of life.

MLS: The Naked King of End-to-End Encryption

The goal of this essay is to revisit the core problems that #MLS aims to solve, and consider whether it solves them well enough. And if it does not solve them well enough, then what areas it can be effectively applied to, and what are the alternatives to MLS.

What Problem Does MLS Aim to Solve?

The problem that the #cryptographers who designed MLS aimed to solve is end-to-end (E2E) #encryption in large groups. #E2E encryption, by definition, is a cryptographic solution that protects the content of the messages from the #communication providers.

A simple approach to E2E encryption in large groups would be for all members to agree on a shared key. But the problem of this approach is the cost of key updates. If the group is really large, then every time a member leaves, the remaining members must agree on a new key so that the member who left cannot decrypt the new #messages. With a simple approach the cost of agreeing on the group key grows linearly with the group size, and it does not scale well enough.

🤔 Can we force a climate breakthrough? Scientists outline strategy to tip the system

“The challenge now is to identify potential positive tipping points, and the actions that can bring them forward – while avoiding wishful thinking about their existence, or oversimplification of their nature, drivers and impacts.”

Can we force a climate breakthrough? Scientists outline strategy to tip the system
euronews · Climate solutions that spread fast? This is how it could happenThe authors say some positive tipping points are already occurring in power and transport.

“I do wonder what that does if you have this sycophantic, compliant [bot] who never disagrees with you, [is] never bored, never tired, always happy to endlessly listen to your problems, always subservient, [and] cannot refuse consent. What does that do to the way we interact with other humans, especially for a new generation of people who are going to be socialised with this technology?”—Dr Raphaël Millière

Almost hired by a company 🙃, I worked with them for days.
Boss told manager to automate the workplace with 🥁 AI.

Instead of hiring me 🦾, they asked ChatGPT for a “fast,
beautiful” plan. My job: set strict deadlines in this
plan for 3 months, defining artifacts/quality each
stage. After reading the ChatGPT plan 😫, they finally
gave me the boss’s audio.

My approach was: 1) research, 2) architecture, 3)
schedule: 3 cycles/3 months. And I suggested an
alternative interface prioritizing AI.

They laughed :-\ at my interface idea rather than asking
actual users, then told me to leave. :-(

Lessons:
- People want “beautiful” but useless, ChatGPT-made plans
(20 pages or 3 vague bullets).
- Never again without a full contract.
- Still no solution for linking all social networks with
AI or for good RAG. ☆
