Now that this chapter of #AusPol has closed, Hardaker's review puts it nicely in perspective.

"When the Liberals assess the causes of their disaster they’d be tempted to dwell on the five weeks of the campaign. A better place to start would be August 24, 2018, the day Abbott finally tore down Malcolm Turnbull as prime minister.

"It was an act of pure vengeful bloodletting, led by Dutton, Abbott’s ideological twin. Even then Dutton failed to convince his party that he was fit to lead. Victory on the day went to God’s man, Scott Morrison.

"But the purge of the party was well underway. Turnbull remarked at the time that the hard-right Abbott forces would rather destroy the party than accept the views of the moderates, especially on climate change and energy.

"And so it has transpired. Abbott lost his own seat in 2019, but the hard right ploughed on, oblivious to the evidence."

THE POLITICS · Behind every Liberal loser stands Tony Abbott, hit man - THE POLITICSThe former PM rose from Peter Dutton's ashes on Saturday night to propose the way forward for the dead, buried and cremated Libs: back to the future.

Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa #MAGA Price has again raised the spectre of election integrity as the #Coalition begins to come to terms with its drubbing at the ballot box.

In an interview that grabbed attention for her fiery rebuke of an association with Donald Trump, the Country Liberal Party politician alluded to something happening at “remote polling booths” that had been reported to the Australian Electoral Commission.

#auspol The #Trump factor at work again.

Australians have long memories in politics. Over the last 20 years, they have got to know the vibe of the #Coalition very well. They could sense that #Trump is king-pig at the end of slippery pigsty-slope inhabited by hard-right populists like #Howard, like #Abbott, #Morrison, #Dutton and most of his Liberal National colleagues, particularly since the moderates lost to Teals, or to #Liberal factional warring.

When Dutton worked out that his Trump-like politics might be problematic, he made a concerted effort to put away the #MAGA hats. This attempt at pivoting was the reason the Coalition’s campaign looked like such a mess. Asking Dutton and his colleagues to hide their MAGA is like asking the Labor Party not to defend Medicare. Dutton tried #backflipping from #policies, tried to stop talking about #nuclear, worked to present a different face.

But ultimately, in the final two weeks, this shapeshifting became too hard and Dutton gave in to his base instincts. He dived back into the culture-warring like a pig in mud with his attacks on #welcomeTocountry ceremonies and his #preference deal with #OneNation. All this did was remind Australians how Trump-like he is. #auspol

Things Warren Entsch said on the ABC this morning:

"Well, now 80% of the population lives in 20% of the country with cities and things. And 50% of the population is women. And there are other generations not just boomers. So we have to understand that our demographics have changed"*

"[Malcolm Turnball] always was someone that he never was and tried to be someone he wasn't"

Day 33 cont 🗣️🇨🇳

“Foreign Minister #PennyWong (#Labor) is telling voters on #Chinese #SocialMedia apps that the #Liberals are questioning their #loyalty as both sides seek to exploit perceived links to #Beijing while continuing to court the #diaspora vote.

Key marginal seats in #NSW and #Victoria will likely be decided on the Chinese Australian vote, including the north Sydney seat of #Bennelong, where a man who held a senior role in a Chinese government-linked influence association (#CCP) is leading a volunteer group for the Liberal candidate.

Both claims show the difficulty political parties face as they try to win over Chinese Australian voters with a wide array of priorities, manage Australia’s #ComplexRelationship with its largest trading partner, and attack the other side over #NationalSecurity.”

“A #Coalition government would divert more than 10% of annual government funding for #CreativeAustralia to a single cultural project and unspecified broadcasting programs if elected at Saturday’s federal election.

In the Coalition’s #PolicyCostings, released on Thursday, the “safe, sustainable and connected communities” section contained a pledge to “#redirect” $33.2m of Creative Australia’s annual #funding of $312m “to #MelbourneJewishArtsQuarter and supporting #broadcasting”.

The quarter is a planned new centre celebrating Jewish #arts, #culture, #food and #shopping in #Elsternwick in #Melbourne.”

Entitlement. Since the LNP has no policy, the funding could be more than the stated 10%.
