richard
Conversing to the Fediverse With WordPress

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Recently I saw a post stating that WordPress can speak with the fediverse more effectively. For months we could post to the fediverse but if we replied to a toot via WordPress it would be lost. Those on Mastodon instances would comment but be "ignored".

For months I thought that it was bizarre that WordPress would only broadcast to the fediverse, but not allow for two way chats to occur. I found this frustrating because if people did comment on a post I'd have to use another account to answer, and acknowledge that comment.

Yesterday I saw my blog post in the fediverse so I commented on it, and then I replied within my blog, and then I replied to my reply, and was able to have a threaded exchange between the fediverse and my wordpress blog. I believe that this would work with ClassicPress too.

The reason for which this is significant is that from now on, we do not need to use Mastodon or other fediverse instances to be part of the fediverse. We can use our blogs as Fediverse instances. The barrier to entry for the fediverse has been lowered.

And Finally

Yesterday I was toying with the idea of restarting a Mastodon instance until I experimented with the chat ability of WordPress and the Fediverse and when I saw that it works well now that desire to setup an instance went away. We could now share photos without the need for Pixelfed or other solutions.

The next step would be to experiment with ClassicPress.

#classicpress #conversation #fediverse #wordpress
