this was hands-on learning at its finest.The best part? Coming away with some absolutely wicked pots that exceeded all expectations. <br>

But here's the real surprise - those Mayco glazes I've been working with are absolute performers even pushed to cone 12! 😱<br>

There's something magical about wood firing - the unpredictability, the community aspect, the way flame and ash interact with your work in ways you can never fully control. LauraTimmisPot of the Day – Inca Urpu (c. 15th Century)<br>
<br>
Although similar in style and function to the amphorae of ancient Greece, the urpu has a distinctive Inca shape, with its low handles, tall neck, and bulbous body. Rather than being strapped into ships like the amphorae, these vessels would have had ropes slung through the handles, around the lug at the base of the neck, and then strapped onto a porter’s back for transportation. They would have contained a variety food and beverages, most commonly chicha (fermented corn beer).<br>
<br>
Most urpu bottles are decorated with this distinctive polychrome geometric design - black and red on a cream-colored background. It’s rare to find any kind of representational motifs on these pots; however, some examples have been shown to include khipu designs which is very intriguing!<br>

Brick #1: Books<br>
For the past decade I have been moving around so many places, living a few months here, a couple years there... never really settling. So my home might look very different from other people's home. It's made of the objects I carry with me in my backpack and suitcases and of memories I make and people I meet.<br>
In this project I represented those objects in the shape of bricks, like I use them to build this home even when in between places.<br>
<br>
Books are part of the objects I carry around in various shapes (paperback or electronic). Or else I find my way to books always registering to local libraries.<br>

Here are tests of firing magazine pages in a ceramic electric kiln at around 1000C. The paper doesn't fully burn to ashes like we could think it would at those temperatures.<br>
Over time this changes, the paper sucks in the humidity and it grows and becomes like a white powder.<br>
