How times change.
As a young biology student I thought the botanical excursions so boring. It felt like we spent ages on tiny plants, and really I was just there for zoology. I didn't get it.
Now I'm grateful I had these basics drilled into me, and as I grow more confident in foraging I find myself reaching for the Schmeil-Fitschen botanical key regularly. I hated this book because I never got anything right! I still get plenty wrong, but I find the details reassuring.
