Returned from my trip to see another sign of Spring here in the Charlotte area: Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. (Pic taken through glass)

This is a big weekend for nocturnal bird migration. As many as 500 million birds could be flying under cover of darkness across America. Join Audubon’s Lights Out program by turning outdoor lights off at night to provide them safe passage between their nesting and wintering grounds. #SanDiego #BirdMigration

Three Hooded Merganser males tried to impress the one female around.
Quite a few new arrivals on the river: Mergansers (Hooded and Common), Buffleheads, Goldeneyes, Ring-neck Ducks, and Canada Geese.
Overhead Bald Eagles and Turkey Vultures. Grackles and Robins.

Geese don't fly at night do they?

I can't find anything else than that they fly in the mornings and in the evenings.
Maybe it was a disturbed flock?
