Our maintainer @koppor did a talk at #DANTE2025 (a #TeXLaTeX conference) about #JabRef
The key topic was the development process and how users can participate in testing and providing feedback etc.
You can find the slides (German only) here: https://www.dante.de/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Oliver_Kopp-JabRef.pdf
PS: We recently upgraded to #javafx 24 as well.
Huh, I must've missed the announcement.
@swheritage is now providing citation metadata to download as #BibTeX and use via #BibLaTeX (biblatex-software) for archived software with a CITATION.cff file or codemeta.json in the root directory!
Very cool!
#JabRef got a new cool new feature, to quickly see where bibliographic information is still incomplete. You might think, JabRef has already an Integrity check? Well, this feature's key focus is primarily on identifying missing required fields and to providing a quick overview.

If anyone from the University of Hull follows me, did you know I maintain a set of latex templates that support the Hull Harvard referencing system? I don't remember who I inherited it from, but it's pretty cool and I've taken up the torch of maintaining it myself.
Yesterday, I updated it to the new Hull Harvard style (which required manually editing the hull.bst file, which was an adventure in and of itself if anyone would be interested in reading a blog post about it?). Please see recent commit message for further information if you're migrating:

Disclaimer: This may contain bugs, so please check referencing etc yourself just in case!
This is actual evolutionary progress: A #JSON variant of #BibTeX - #BibJSON : https://okfnlabs.org/projects/bibjson via @okfn labs. Very cool.

Why are commercial publishers not able to provide #bibtex entries?
Find four mistakes in this item:
One is the div stuff. Why is it there? Is nobody checking the output of the code they are writing?

Working with #DeGruyter is always fun. Find at least fife mistakes.
I have recently seen a #BibTex entry appear on some blogs. Is this a good thing to add to your blog?

The person has 154097 citations, according to #Scholar.
What I did is:
- write a script to generate the bunch of #BibTex files for those papers,
- list them, highlighting the name in common and send that to the editor.
Still, I yielded to my co-authors and we added a couple of not-so-irrelevant papers from the list.

I have a quick question to all #bibtex users out there, particularly academics: Do you know of an open source software solution to share bibtex items (#bibliographies) within a #research group?
I am thinking of a #server application, for example, to which individual researchers can upload their bibliographies, tag/cluster/organise and share them with each other. Ideally with some browser plugin to make adding new references easy.
A boost would be highly appreciated - thanks!
That said #Bibtex is worse in that it only includes up to four authors in its labels if you pick alnum-style and those are even visible in the finished documents…
Today I wrestled with #BibTeX for a while before remembering that "———" just meant "idem" or "ibid" or whichever, and it was saving me space.
Updating a 6-year old paper using #Emacs org-mode (with latex & bibtex in the background). The handling of citations has completely changed, and the docs for the new org-cite commands is absolutely cryptic. Therefore a delight to discover this paper which (a) makes everything clear, and (b) shows the power of the new system:
