SnoopJ<p>Fire preparedness bonus points:</p><p>* Know a little bit about your local fire code. Are the buildings you enter on the regular up to code, in your opinion?</p><p>* Run fire drills. It's free and extremely cool, and does NOT need to involve setting off a building system. What you *do* need is a specific rally point (or several), especially for a family home, but it's important in work and other environments too. Practice making sure everybody's accounted for, too.</p><p>* You can just elect yourself Fire Marshal. Seize the Throne of Safety, slay the dragon of Just Kinda Winging It, annoy and amaze your friends and foes alike by insisting on a water bucket before the fire begins, and by insisting on extinguishing the fire when it is time for the last person(s) to go to sleep. Protip: if you know how to build a fire worth a damn, your friends will probably just defer to you on this. Create more Fire Marshals.</p><p>* Local FD demonstrations/events. Seriously, there's a pretty decent amount of it and it's actually really cool. As scary as fire is, *controlled* fire is a promethean thrill and you will learn so much about fire(bad) by seeing it in a setting where professionals are keeping you safe so that you can become an effective active participant in keeping everyone safe. And even when it's not a live burn there is a lot to learn. Lots of videos available online, too.</p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/BePrepared" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BePrepared</span></a></p>

I cannot strongly enough urge you:

* Know your escape routes (NOT exits). Especially in new buildings. Evacuation maps are legally posted for a reason, often next to the elevator (because an elevator is NOT a reliable escape route)

* Have smoke detectors and keep them operational.

* Own a fire extinguisher. Know how to use it. Your local FD can train you in actual operation of it. Keep it somewhere you can get to in seconds, in the kitchen. Check it regularly. Own multiple if you have other likely sources of fire in your home.

* If you have gas utilities, know where the gas shutoff valve is.

#Sydney & parts of the #NewSouthWales coast should brace themselves for a fast-developing #weather system expected to bring #damagingwinds, #heavyrainfall & #flooding early next week, the Bureau of Meteorology has said.

The system that is expected to develop on Sunday has the potential to be classified in the coming days as an east coast low – a weather system known for its damaging potential.

Someone just got chased off, apparently because he is a J6 shithead.

Good job, L.A. They *shouldn't* feel safe in your crowd¹. Because, fundamentally, CHUDs want to kill your crowd. Remove ASAP.

¹ "crowd" explicitly may refer to a more abstract organizational community. Anything from a book club to a union meets this

Plenty of people in these crowds paid attention during the 2014 and 2019/2020 protests in Hong Kong.

If you're going to gear up, any is better than none, and more is usually safer than less against police violence.

A K95 mask is safer than no mask.
A respirator is safer than a K95.
A full-face mask *may*¹ be safer than a respirator.

¹ it is against gas, but it may be more vulnerable to ballistic rounds, depending on its rating. I am not an authority on this, so get a second opinion! But the material does matter with any barrier against kinetic weapons, and a certification is necessary for any faith in it. Does it have certified testing of its ability to stop a projectile? That's a good sign.

1 Make a plan.
2 Practice it.
3 Practice it again.
4 Practice it AGAIN.
n PRACTICE IT AGAIN.

Periodic reminder: If you're skipping steps 2-n, you really only have a concept of a plan.
