A bonus with activating #CTCSS *and* #tonesquelch (beware, its also possible to also set just CTCSS on TX and leave RX with no tone which may or may not be what you want) is the direct conversion RX on the #Baofeng with near 0 selectivity (these flaws are all "covered up" with DSP) no longer makes a racket when my car key fob is transmitting, as there is no CTCSS tone present to open squelch (maybe this is why #Retevis always activate it on their similarly priced radios?) #PMR446 #UHF #radio

On top of everything else, I’m a licensed ham radio bug.

My call sign is K2OOI (I’m a huge Stanley Kubrick fan) but it’s actually not what it looks like.

FCC regulations dictate that the last three characters in this format have to be exactly that – characters, not numbers.

So while it *looks* like 2001, it’s actually 2ooi. Or as they say in NATO phonetics:

Kilo Two Oscar Oscar India.

But if you set it in Futura …

The only thing so far that I don't like about the #Baofeng BF-F8HP (the newest seventh generation model) is that it does not read any of the menus. Aside from me finding out myself I was doing more research on YouTube about it. The voice guidance will read everything else, except for the menus. This means you won't be able to hear about the GPS setting, the CTCSS settings, and other stuff on the radio. Hopefully btech will release a firmware update to fix this. Because it seems like all the other models do so, like the UV5R and the UV5G plus radios. #Accessibility

I got myself a new radio. A #Baofeng UV-3R because I wanted a REALLY tiny radio for my every day backpack and #Yaesu and all the others have nothing as small as the UV-3R.

But programming that thing drives me nuts already. Not because of the Software. Oh no, it works with CHIRP. But because of the damn cable.

My multi-radio cable has the matching plug but it won’t allow CHIRP (and the original software) to communicate with the device.
