Is it because I’ve been watching documentaries about some of the artists from the Nouveau Réalisme movement lately that I’ve started appreciating eclectic collections of objects? I’m not sure… All I know is that I now find myself rummaging through my trash cans—and even other people's—to see what I can salvage, picking up little objects I find on the street…

In the amber glow of a Southern sunset, two souls from different worlds find themselves sharing the worn leather seats of a turquoise Cadillac. One carries the weight of prejudice, the other the grace of music that transcends all boundaries. Their story unfolds through dusty cotton fields and gilded concert halls, where elegance meets raw humanity.
This visual narrative captures four pivotal moments of transformation - from the endless highways that stretch toward hope, to the crystalline brilliance of art spaces where talent speaks louder than skin color. Each frame tells of barriers broken, not through grand gestures, but through quiet conversations over fried chicken and the gradual recognition that dignity has no color.
In extreme close-up, we witness the birth of unlikely friendship - fragmented like broken mirrors reflecting new truths, weathered like old leather that gains character with time. Sometimes the most profound journeys happen not in the destination, but in the sacred space between strangers becoming family.

Just completed this morning. Another one for the June show.

Yes, this choice property does come complete with an ancient concept for a new roof, including a pair of twin hovering succulents, a small flock of stymied birds, and an overstuffed guard hut. What more could you ask for?

A familiar facsimile calls for help while hanging by a thread during a crises in the living room.
Wood, acrylic paint, wire, laser cut MDF | 12 x 10.75 x 3.5 inches (30.5 x 27 x 9 cm) | October 2020

The colorful background is made from craft sticks I used as paint stir sticks that I saved. I now have quite a collection of them that I incorporate into assemblage pieces now and then.

Old Constellation With New Idea I
Recycled wood, discarded bottle caps, nails, wire, chain, acrylic paint, paper | 23.5 x 16.5 inches (59.7 x 41.9 cm)

This is the first Old Constellation piece I did. The wood is a piece of old plywood that was used to ship artwork in. I found it at work by the trash bins.

Wood, acrylic paint, paper, wire, metal, tiny handwoven cloth, graphite | 13.5 x 5.75 x 2.5 inches (34.3 x 14.6 x 8.9 cm) | May 1991

This is a very early piece I did back when I was really having fun doing this kind of assemblage work.

After the room was cleared, forgotten flapjacks and a hiding surprise were revealed.
Wood, acrylic paint, laminated paper, wire | 10 x 8 x 3.5 inches (25.4 x 20.32 x 9 cm) | June 2022

The flapjacks (pancakes) are made from circles of heavy paper laminated together with wood glue and painted. The ghost was made using the same lamination technique. I carved the light bulb from a piece of round dowel.

Bugged again by a temporary move. Yeah man. That's what it's all about.
Acrylic house paint on panel, wood, popsicle sticks, graphite, small nails |
10 x 10 x 1.5 inches (25.4 x 25.4 x 3.8 cm) | April 2023

I got the idea and inspiration for this one from Barnett Newman's Zip paintings and the film "Why Man Creates". :-D
