The mountain I want to climb next month is still in winter mode and I should not forget to pack some winter clothes for my trip to #arcticnorway #tromso

New on the tubes: Sigma 14mm F1.4 out and about in Arctic Norway. Big. Bold. Beautiful.
Oh yeah I forgot that the 14mm F1.4 turns up a heap in my general overview of "what to pack for the Arctic".
Some nice aurora moments in here from that lens, but also some examples of how I use for landscape work.
And I wanna plug my Norway photo tours for 2025 while I'm here.
My annual Norway Photo Tour runs in Feb:

Plus a new "Polar Nights" aurora chase for January. Bit more hard core that one:

I am an addict for shallow depth of field, even when shooting landscapes with an ultra-wide lens :)
This was taken with the Sigma 14mm F1.4 (and Lumix S5II). Could use a little more snow here, but the sunshine is nice.
Lots of lovely cabins today. And hanging with my favie person in the world :)
Was nice down at the beach too. Haven't had a tonne of sunshine the last month, so days like today are a treasure. Spent most of it outside and didn't get any of my work done :)
Took a little walk today. Some nice afternoon light in Senja, plus a minimum of shrubs. Just enough snow to make things pretty.
Hoping for clear skies tonight. Can still see some stars out there, but not much aurora activity. Not yet anyway!

Join me for a walk through some unexpected joy from Arctic Norway as my Android TV reminds me of what matters most in my life.
Beautiful bridge during sunset in Lofoten islands, Norway
Everything happens too quickly in this life.
Can feel the moody side kicking in. The way sunset can fall under the weight of a storm.
This photo was taken in the days before the planet was transformed by covid. We were up in the Arctic, a million miles from the rest of the world. I wanted this moment to last forever.
I remember the first time we descended into this fjord and saw the island and all the little homes packed onto it and a fleet of fishing boats and there's even a cute little cafe in town for a nice hot chocolate.
I could barely believe it was real.
Little gems like this are hidden all over Norway. Winter time makes them all the more special :)
When the LUMIX S1R came out I was pretty excited. 47MP in normal mode, and 187MP using pixel shift. Truth is it's exceedingly rare that I need more than 20MP and mostly these days I use the LUMIX S5 instead. It's smaller and lighter and still does 96MP with pixel shift, so that's not bad.
I'm getting ready to head back in a few weeks, and thinking about what camera to pack. Hmmmm.
Too often with photography we're looking for grandeur. We want the big scene or the perfect shot. I notice this when travelling with camera club folks in particular.
It's the little moments that make photography for me, the imperfect pieces that reveal the texture of a place. Life isn't perfect, and neither is photography.
I think of my style as 'editorial'. I collect pieces of a story. Lots of pieces.
This is my buddy Ian. We've enjoyed over a decade of travelling together. Funny how some people come into your life and bring a whole new outlook to what you do and suddenly almost everything in your life becomes more rewarding.
Thanks Ian. I hope we get plenty more journeys together.
