That Deaf Guy<p>Heads up to <a href="https://beige.party/tags/UKArtists" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UKArtists</span></a> looking for portfolio sleeves. The Mapac ones as oft found at <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Hobbycraft" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Hobbycraft</span></a> can only really be used for storage and not presentation. They crease and nip far too easily.</p><p>Thankfully I got mine for storage.</p><p>If you want something more substantial try and find the professional and much thicker Daley Rowney ones. Also note that the budget Daler Rowney sleeves are 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 the same as the Mapac ones. I have seen a significant decrease in quality with Daler Rowney products since the 1990's so might even be advisable to search elsewhere. </p><p>EDIT: The Cass Art ones look thicker: <a href="https://www.cassart.co.uk/Cass-Art-Presentation-Sleeves/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">cassart.co.uk/Cass-Art-Present</span><span class="invisible">ation-Sleeves/</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://beige.party/tags/Art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Art</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Artist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Artist</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/ArtistUK" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ArtistUK</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/ArtStorage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ArtStorage</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Printing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Printing</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/PrintStorage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PrintStorage</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Portfolio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Portfolio</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Folio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Folio</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/ArtFolio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ArtFolio</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Mapac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mapac</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/DalerRowney" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DalerRowney</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Archival" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Archival</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Archiving" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Archiving</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Archive" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Archive</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Design" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Design</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Photography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Photography</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/CassArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CassArt</span></a></p>

Yesterday's Rose<p>Okay! With the photos imported, I finally got back to working with my photos! Posted some more on my <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/tumblr" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tumblr</span></a> queue and <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/pixelfed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pixelfed</span></a>.</p><p>Also, previously, my photos lived on the NAS SMB share, and I'm used to saving metadata changes over 100 meg ethernet. (The network is *theoretically* gigabit, but *some* old piece of junk didn't get the memo. I think it was the NAS itself that was holding the speed back. Or maybe the hub.) Now that the photos are on a USB3 disk, I'm like "holy shit wait wait wait hhhhhhhooooly shit this is is SO fast". Maybe I'll finally fix some category stuff that has been bugging me for years!</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/photography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>photography</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/archival" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>archival</span></a></p>

Yesterday's Rose<p>Also related the <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/backups" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>backups</span></a>:</p><p>I'm dumping these files on an old USB 3 hard drive which belonged to my late father.</p><p>Now, I've archived a *ton* of his old files, obviously. Kind of a sad and perplexing task at times.</p><p>Fortunately, the files on this HDD were objectively useless and I just nuked the disk.</p><p>Basically, it just had Digital Cinema Package (DCP) format movies from the local cinema. Which I can't play, because I don't have a cinema projector *and* I don't have the DRM license keys either, duh. Plus these files take up a *lot* of space (think 4K video with minimal compression. yeah.)</p><p>So yeah, kept a file listing from the hard drive as a proof that the cinema indeed had a few titles showing way back in 2019. But if they want to re-show them maybe they should download the stuff again or have them shipped off on a HDD.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/archival" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>archival</span></a></p>

Yesterday's Rose<p>Done some <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/archival" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>archival</span></a> of my dad's old floppies.</p><p>Weird <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/LibreOffice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LibreOffice</span></a> discovery number 1: LibreOffice opens up Windows 3.x Write files (*.WRI) just fiiiiiine. (And it seems to claim it can open ancient-ass Microsoft Works files and whatnot but I've not tried it yet)</p><p>I think I just imaged one of the floppies that got handed to me for printing *in this very same room* in 1999. Back *then*, when faced with weird .SDW format, I just reached out behind me, grabbed an Iomega Jaz disk containing StarOffice installer, and off I went.</p><p>Now? Weird LibreOffice discovery number 2: LibreOffice doesn't open SDW files any more. Now, it *does* open the XML based SXW files which are the predecessor to OpenDocument ODT files. But this old binary nonsense? No dice.</p><p>(Edit: Never mind, looks like I was forward-thinking back then and converted the files to plain text!)</p>

George Liquor, American<p>Y'all I got this nearly 30-year-old CDr at the thrift and can't get a clean rip of it even though the surface looks great. It does have a paper label, so that might be causing problems. Does anyone have experience archiving oooollllddd CDrs? I really want a proper lossless copy of this, but the only rips I can get are full of noise, even using EAC secure mode. Always read errors and sync errors. <br>This dude played the glasses in the video I linked earlier, and I really want decent copies of this to be available to everyone !</p><p>I added it to discogs here:<br><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/CDr" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CDr</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Archive" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Archive</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Archival" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Archival</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Audio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Audio</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/TalkingHeads" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TalkingHeads</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Traditional" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Traditional</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/GlassHarmonica" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GlassHarmonica</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://www.discogs.com/release/34362283-Glasnots-Re-elect-The-Moon-The-Music-Of-Terry-Hinely-and-Glasnots" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">discogs.com/release/34362283-G</span><span class="invisible">lasnots-Re-elect-The-Moon-The-Music-Of-Terry-Hinely-and-Glasnots</span></a><br><a href="https://universeodon.com/@liquor_american/114741582471798652" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">universeodon.com/@liquor_ameri</span><span class="invisible">can/114741582471798652</span></a></p>
