Herr Irrtum!
The most played Christmas pop song ever is...

- WHAM – Last Christmas

you may think? Wrong! It's

- MARIAH CAREY – ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU

Seriously I had no idea. Furthermore I don't even know that song. I have also, believe it or not, just a vague idea, who this Mariah Carey person is. Sure the name pops up here and then, but I couldn't name any song she did. And I certainly don't know this No.1 Christmas song. I kept reading about this song when doing recherches for my upcoming radio show – a music show, no less (Tomorrow night!), but I honestly didn't bother to listen. I just saw her smiling "Everybody's Darling" face and decided: No. Not worth my time.
However yesterday at the restaurant I've visited they played it. I'm sure. A phemale singing to some Phil Collins "You can't hurry love" beats (but more generic, less interesting) about all she wants for Christmas and that's you.
And I can't believe how unspectacular, how uninteresting, how bland it sounded. Half a day later I can't remember anything concrete about the melody even – something I have normally no problems with. But it was all so generic. I know the song is from 1994, so that's that but if you'd ask an AI to make a Christmas song everybody loves, this is exactly what would come out.
Why is this song, that lacks any charisma so much in favor of the masses then? More than Wham's Xmass smasher?

I assume that Everybody's Darling face "Mariah Carey" is hugely popular, especially in the US (just an assumption). And that its name is something, that triggers lovers to present this song to each other. Listen, if you want to be my lover and present this song to me in an act of love and care, IT'S OVER! I'm not in love for shit like this!!

Seriously: Imagine something that isn't possible:

A group of people who have no idea who Mariah Carey is, and also no idea about Wham!.

Play them "Last Christmas" and "All I want for..." and then ask them what they like better

I bet all I have that query would go in favor of Wham!. Not that I'm a fan of them either, but that song is an ear worm from the beginning, it is gentle, it has great harmonie structures, it is optimistic, romantic and sentimental all at once and it has it's own character. Objectively!
As I said, I don't like both songs, but you can't tell me M.C. has the better one. It's objectively not the case!

So why the hell is Mariah Carey suddenly the one who provides Xmas Song number one?! What is WRONG with this world??

#xmasSongs #MusicIndustry #massbrainwashing #Music #christmas #xmasrituals

Sources (no direct links by purpose):
- av.rwth-aachen.de/day-19-what-are-the-most-played-christmas-songs/
