Wintermute_BBS<p>I've just moved <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/WintermuteBBS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WintermuteBBS</span></a> (the <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> based one I run since 2009, the other one is the infamous "RC-BOX BBS" which is the <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Z80" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Z80</span></a> based one) from a soulless x86 vm somewhere in the cloud to an old <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/RaspberryPi3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RaspberryPi3</span></a> B+ at home, in the living room shelf more or less next to <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/rc2014bbs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rc2014bbs</span></a>. The natural habitat of any good <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/bbs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bbs</span></a> I guess.</p><p>The move went rather well, I had to recompile the binaries to get <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/arm64" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>arm64</span></a> ones and migrate the existing userbase. No data lost, <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/DOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DOS</span></a> doorgames work but they take a little longer to load. I also fixed the <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/rss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rss</span></a> newsfeeds and checked the <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/echomail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>echomail</span></a> connectivity.</p><p>If you want to connect, check my profile and watch out for the "Wintermute BBS" address.</p>
Wintermute_BBS<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://8bit.social/@aLPHA" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>aLPHA</span></a></span> I can also recommend "MBSE BBS" <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/MBSEBBS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MBSEBBS</span></a> which is perfect for connecting to multiple Echo networks. I use it for my Linux based <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/WintermuteBBS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WintermuteBBS</span></a> and even have submitted the odd upstream bugfix for it.</p><p>I ran both, Synchronet and Mystic for some time, but eventually went for MBSE in the long run.</p><p>Check it out!</p><p><a href="https://sourceforge.net/projects/mbsebbs/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">sourceforge.net/projects/mbseb</span><span class="invisible">bs/</span></a></p>
Wintermute_BBS<p>Most of you may know me for the <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/rc2014bbs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rc2014bbs</span></a> "RC-BOX BBS" which I have been promoting throughout the fediverse recently.</p><p>However, my nickname originates from my other, older BBS, the "Wintermute BBS" which I started back in 2009 and which is still up and running.</p><p>It's a <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> based <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/bulletinboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bulletinboard</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/bbs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bbs</span></a> running the <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/mbsebbs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mbsebbs</span></a> software. </p><p>It's a bi-lingual system, supported languages are english and german (system messages and menus are available in either language).</p><p>It's currently connected to good old FIDOnet and BBSnet (further networks are being prepared, e.g. amiganet).</p><p>The filebase features some <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/commodore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>commodore</span></a> stuff and file-echos are also being prepared right now.</p><p>There are some more commodities: I've got a selection of old DOS doorgames and some Infocom games to play for you.</p><p>To keep you informed about the latest news, there's the "Newsroom" with a selection of german and english RSS feeds to read.</p><p>Maybe you want to drop by sometime?!</p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/bbsing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bbsing</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/fidonet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fidonet</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/wintermutebbs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wintermutebbs</span></a></p>
