I've seen some varying opinions around #EndOf10 and #Linux and the inevitable #YearOfLinuxOnTheDesktop meme, and I want to chime in that this is a regular part of the OS lifecycle. Linux users might appear in a slow dribble otherwise, but we grow more rapidly when MS fumbles. I started Linux to get away from #WindowsME, and there were similar moods around #WindowsVista and #Windows8. The event is neither a joke nor a start of Linux supremacy, just a good opportunity.

If I use dd (on Linux) to copy an entire Windows ME bootable IDE drive to another drive (same capacity or higher), shouldn't that still be bootable on the same computer?
Did that. Trying to boot copied drive starts trying to boot ME, then hangs. Swapped back to original IDE drive, still boots fine.

And yes, I'm well aware that running Windows ME is a Bad Idea (TM). It's a long story.
#WindowsME

I know there is a lot of hate for Windows Me, but:
1. It is more customizable than Windows 11
2. It contains less adware than Windows 11
3. It contains less spyware than Windows 11
4. When it failed to crash, it did what its user wanted, not what the CEO of Microsoft wanted.
5. It has an old version of :internet_explorer_logo: unable to access the modern internet (this is a feature)

Hello #Fediverse, here's your "daily" OS-tan art and the first of my reworked daily OS-tan posts!

This one is of Windows Me-tan!

Also known as Emui, Me-tan is the original OS-tan from the Futaba Channel, depicting Windows Millennium Edition. With her green pigtails and clumsy demeanor, she has become one of the most beloved OS-tans.

Back in 2003, the anthropomorphic character craze was at its peak in Japan and the anonymous bulletin board community was heavily influenced by this trend. Me-tan was created in Futaba on August 6, 2003, though some believe she first appeared in July of the same year.

Portrayed as a clumsy yet cheerful maid, Me-tan is often depicted as a lovable “natural idiot” who humorously fails to defrag, puts fried noodles in the sink, and microwaves coke.

Art is by creator who goes under as ME-aki :P

Hello #Fediverse, here's your "daily" OS-kun!

This one is of the Windows Me-kun!

Me-kun is identical to his sister Me-tan in appearance and screwed-up side, but he is wiser and more helpful; he may occasionally be seen reading Windows Help files to others.

Me-kun is extremely protective of his sister, even to the point of interfering in their relationship or attempting to rescue her from the problems she brought about. Apart from that, he is frequently pictured getting along with Homeo, XP-kun, and 2K-kun, the former of whom serves as Me-kun's guardian.
