𝐩fᵣ<p>I think I've finally graduated from <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> college. </p><p>I've got an old Sony Vaio with 2gb ram and a piss-poor CPU. I tried everything on it. <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/openbsd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openbsd</span></a>, <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/alpineliux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>alpineliux</span></a>, <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/tinycore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tinycore</span></a>, <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/antixlinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>antixlinux</span></a>.. but at the end of the day, it's just slow. So I settled on Alpine with no graphical session. Here it is running successfully on a 1999 Sony VAIO with a single 333Mhz Celeron processor and 128Mb RAM.</p><p>Getting it booted was no effort; burn a CDROM and boot from it. Setting up wireless networking using an ancient D-Link branded WiFi USB dongle was a different story, but I got it working in the end.</p><p>That's the <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Dillo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Dillo</span></a> browser running in the foreground!</p>

It would have been less but the monitor scaling feature of course turned into a rabbit hole.</p><p>But read the changelog if you are curious. It&#39;s long and thorough by design because it&#39;s the actual record of what changed, why, and what isn&#39;t currently doable. I use it often to find when why and how features are added or removed or changed.</p>
