Project #minirack is done :)
The goal was to have a nice "living room capable" 10" rack to hold my #homeasssitant box with a touch display for smart home control, a network switch and a UPS.
And no it is not living in the livingroom now, nor was it planned ;) I could have moved the network wiring to the back/inside, but in the end it needed a little nerd factor.
Mostly made from laser cut plywood in #kumiko pattern that I spray painted black, and some 3D printed parts. All self designed/built except for the metal rails in the corners.
And did I mention it's ALL powered by USB-C PD internally?
@dazo this was the Linux side of my desk two years ago. The fleet has grown and I've rearranged my office numerous times since then.

Bought a used #ThinkCentre on fleabay today.
Thinking of trying out #FreeBSD on it as a daily driver. ;)
On second thought, I don't think I can run #KerbalSpaceProgram on it. I'm wondering how good the Linux "emulation" is. Hrmmm, maybe #OpenSuSE instead (sorry #BSD brethren!)

Passive #heatsink on a Lenovo #ThinkCentre that I'm going to install #Debian on to act as a #Wireguard proxy for a #Synology NAS.
So, it was finally time to move #BSD Lucy from the old Dell to a newer PC at work, and she's quite happy that this #Lenovo #ThinkCentre will now #RunBSD, and faster!
#OpenBSD
Fekk ein "#1962 Error: No operating system found." på ein #Lenovo #ThinkCentre her om dagen.
To be clear, my M1 mini has actually been only running as a Plex server and I use my #ThinkPad T480 as my primary machine.
I'm almost done replacing the function of the #Plex server with an Aoostar R1. It's part of my #ProxMox cluster and has the Intel N100, so transcoding will be hardware based.
This also has the advantage of being able to run #TrueNAS and migrating my DAS from the M1.
The function of the #ThinkCentre P360 will be to do the AI stuff I find slow on the M1.
I have an old #AIO #ThinkCentre I5 machine, It has 8gb of ram, 240gb ssd drive, is a dual core, with hyper threading.
I installed #LinuxMint 22.0 and it will randomly freeze, and never comes back, I have to hard reset it. Did all the updates, that didn't help.
The really interesting thing, I don't think it's a hardware issue, #Mint 21.3 runs quick and fast, and no freezes.
Maybe 22 has an issue with the SSD, it seems to freeze when accessing it mostly
This weekend I updated my #alternativephotography exposure system LOL APES for short. I mean its in C++ now and seems to be working on the #thinkcentre that I designated for #cyanotypes on #projector.
Fresh install of #FreeBSD on my #Thinkcentre done
Next: #Jail setup and admin work
This host, next to my #hypervisor and #linux srv will be devoted to fiddling with #bhyve and #jails
More to follow soon
Erfahrungen? Tipps?
Which Lenovo products support Linux?
Here's your starting point! Their Linux team maintains this list of platforms that support not only Fedora, but @ubuntu as well! And it's not strictly speaking the products that you can buy, but also the history of platforms that have been tested for Linux.
It's a super valuable official resource for ThinkPad fans, basically lol
After using my laptop as a semi-permanent "desktop" for years, just picked up an actual desktop: a refurbished ThinkCentre M720q for a good price because "no Windows installed".
No problem!
Clean and solid little device. Also easiest-to-upgrade computer I've ever had. Single screw to remove the top panel, slide off bottom panel, add second stick of RAM bringing it to 32GB and a 1TB m.2 SSD.
This clip shows how easy:

I'll second the #Lenovo #ThinkCentre
I have an M900 and an M710 running most of my "lab". If you're buying used, they cost the same as a new Pi (or less) but offer better performance, expandable RAM, an x86-64 processor, and proper storage options.
#lenovo going the wrong way in #righttorepair with the #thinkcentre neo series.
When life gives you a #thinkcentre, make it another #proxmox #node. #homelab #adminlife
Thought I'd try #HaikuOS on a couple of old 32-bit #x86 machines.
First, an IBM #ThinkCentre S50. The P4 3.0 GHz HT handles it relatively well, with the virtual cores averaging at about 10% at idle, the machine pulling 75W from the wall.
The second is a VXL Itona thin client, with a Via Eden 1.0 GHz. This little Mini-ITX box is struggling a bit more, averaging around 40% CPU, pulling 15W from the wall.
