The reason is that this Postmodernist "King of Ironic Detachment" has finally embraced the sincere Wokeism of our current times, turning in an autobiographical novel set during his senior year of high school in 1981 Los Angeles to show how the traumas of his life (including being coerced into gay sex by a 40-year-old movie producer) led to a career of arm's-length emotions.
