@xylander you'll get to hear "Craft Pundit" , featuring the #Hammond #Novachord (used on "Candy Store" album). A good bit of sound design on the track, including the mellotron like flute played by a #sequentialcircuits #sixtrak (and creative use of magnetic tape). A dual personality #tb303 clone for both bass sections. Drums come from a Roland #tr606 clone and a more unusual suspect, the original #Linn Adrenalinn #music #ElectronicMusic #noise #noiseasinstrument

@music if you listen to the intro of #jamuary 11, you’ll hear what sounds like some kind of sample & hold synth. It is the #tr606 going through an effect of the #adrenalinn & getting modulated at the bpm of the drum machine. It is a bit of an obscure use here but the pedal is definitely carrying its weight in the mix.

Meanwhile the clicky sound is not percussion or drums, that comes from the tape mechanism that i’ve recorded on its own, as a clin d’oeil to my album “Radio interference”

One particularly weird “instrument” that is used on that #music #track is technically a guitar pedal, the #adrenalinn by Roger Linn (of Linn Drum fame). It is primarily an effect pedal, processing the input using a variety of modulations and fx. It has midi in/out and can send start/stop/midi clock (which i used to sync the #tr606 and #tb303). But on top of that, it also incorporates a drum machine of sorts. I also used that functionality to add variety. #jamuary #synth #midi @music

Repairing all LED buttons, dials and faders of a legendary Jomox XBase 09 and outfitting the even more legendary TR-606 with single instrument outputs will be costly.

But just digging them out of my storage after decades and playing with them is sooo much fun.
You tend to forget, how much of a pleasure music making was, and how great instruments sounded, when software and computer screens only played a minor role.
Even today the sound of a DAW is just a generic mushy hyperregulated thing, compared to the character, originality, roughness and pressure of these two drum machines. They even sync using DIN sync. Brutal.

This refurbishment will be realized by the great Kai Roeske of X-tended Berlin. I can't wait to get those machines back in mint working conditions in 3 weeks.

Into music? Check out roland50.studio. It's celebrating 50th anniversary with virtual vintage drum machines / synthesizers.

It's also a well-built and performant multimedia website done with . Haven't found out more yet, because I immediately get stuck making music for hours on end before I managed to open the dev tools 😃
