I still have another self-built server with a lot of services, but loosing them one day will not bother my family.
Also, while my wife was not complaining about #SynologyPhotos, I see that she likes iOS Photos app a lot more.
My daughter was constantly confused about why does she have two apps with photos on her phone. So now she will be fine as well.
So I guess I faced the other side of #selfhosting.
Why now? Because we are moving from #Android to #iOS all together. So #iCloud sounds like a good idea now. A lesser evil. Still #degoogling, right? ))
Spending a quiet Sunday morning shifting old photos over to Synology Photos, starting from anything that's over 10 years old.
I just noticed the big Synology Photos update with the machine learning based classification of items/themes.
It’s… “roughly right.” Hey, it’s a start, doesn’t feed the AI beast, and is better than nothing, I guess.
No #Synology, it's my NAS not yours, fuck off with your AI shite.
#SynologyPhotos
Oh, and you can tag people on photos manually now! Nice!
#SynologyNAS #SynologyPhotos #synology
You can say anything about #Synology, but the new #SynologyPhotos "Similar Items" feature is awesome.
I stop every process I "can" on my #iphone.
I check my #nextdns logs.
I start #synology #SynologyPhotos app.
I refresh my #nextdns logs: 2 blocked attempts to connect to app-measurement.com and googleapis.com
Seriously?
I'll send this to them and will update the thread as I get updates.

The first thing I #selfhosted was #HomeAssistant on the #raspberrypi 3B+ 4 years ago. This was the start of my #homelab.
I have a lot of things #selfhosting since then. This post is a list of services in my Homelab and how I and my family use them.
Most used by the whole family and therefore my favorite are:
- Plex - for all moving pictures
- Synology Photos - for photos obviously
- Synology Drive - files and documents
- Home Assistant - for “Hey, you forgot to turn the lights off in your room, but never mind I can do it myself from the couch”.
Used by my wife together with me:
- Plane - project management
- Plausible Analytics - for analytics

One driving reason to get to 7.x is to get access to Synology Photos, a self-hosted 'cloud' equivalent to Google Photos.
This aids me in keeping my photos:
* organized as a real upgrade from #Picasa
* retains 100% original quality without any modification via Google Photos
* keeps it off Google Photos especially in today's political environment
* sharing between family & friends via Android/iOS clients
Testing the new #PlexPhotos app! Let's see how this will develop over time as it is still in early stage atm.
Maybe this will replace #SynologyPhotos in the long run?
Still a LOT of bugs (playback, glitches, unable to upload from mobile device, missing thumbnails), but it is an initial release.
I like the fact that it is a separate #apple #ios app as well.
Trying to figure out a way to use Apple Photos as a software for all my photos but I have everything saved on my #synology #NAS I just dont want to just #SynologyPhotos and I like the way Apple does things in the app.
Browsing #SynologyPhotos and found this oddity from 2012. I had to look it up. Swearingen Metroliner. Oh, OK!
LAX is great for diverse traffic but I'll tell ya, I have caught more unique stuff at #SAT than any other airport. By a lot.
Love the #AdultMegaPleXXX!
What a messed up world we live in. I came here to tell you how much I love having a NAS and then paused to consider how almost all tech I love ends up turning to crap with time and this might not age well.
Oh well. For now, IFL Synology Photos and I keep forgetting that I have access to my iPhone photos on any device.
(Yes, I know about iCloud it's not the same thing) #Synology #SynologyPhotos #NAS
I really like my #Synology. Fave new tech thingy in years. And #SynologyPhotos is the organization tool I've needed for at least a decade. It is, however, not perfect. Particularly in the facial recognition department.
Take my beautiful wife @Jillianmarisa, for example. While I could make the case that some of these images fit her personality or other traits in some aspect, they don't match her face. HAHAHAHA #facialrecognition (not the alligator, I don't want a divorce)
After 15 years with #Android I’m trying an #iPhone. Day 2.
So #AirPlay is like #Chromecast, but you don’t need to buy additional device. I can finally watch my #SynologyPhotos content on my #SamsungTV in a maximum quality.
Keyboard sucks indeed.
Did you ever experience an automatic screen brightness that just works? I am now. This feature still sucks on every Android phone I ever used.
Calls quality was not a service provider issue after all.
To be fair, I need to mention that I’m comparing very similar phones released in the same year. It’s Samsung Galaxy S21+ and iPhone 13.
How do you keep your photos in Lightroom viewable for the next decade? Sometimes I have #photos which are not great in a photo-technique kind of way, but I would like to keep them. I'm in doubt if I just need to export and safe them to my photo app (which syncs my mobile as well) or keep them in Lightroom. What do you do to "archive" such photos for later viewing? My main goal is to have a historic account of years.
Just liberated 60GB of #iphone storage... All inside #photos app. Who said 128GB model is not enough?
It is if you have #SynologyPhotos to offload all your memories.

Currently in use 55GB... life is good... waiting for #iPhone15Pro
