Yay, I finally got screen sharing working properly on #sway. This was a really handy guide to #xdg #portal #troubleshooting: https://github.com/emersion/xdg-desktop-portal-wlr/wiki/%22It-doesn't-work%22-Troubleshooting-Checklist

How do you launch #flatpak apps on #AlpineLinux with #Sway? :)
Linux desktop environments suck. Reject modernity. Embrace tradition. Give me scrollbars.
So #Microsoft introduced a new tool called #Sway at some point. And their #SecurityScore recommendation is to prevent accidental #privacy leaks by blocking sharing output to external parties from that tool. Great!
So I assume sharing is blocked by default? Right? Right?!
It's not.

Anybody have Wayland-compatibile tiling compositor (WM) recommenddations? I'd been using #xmonad for years, but it doesn't work with Wayland. #KDE #Plasma with #bismuth was good for me, but Bismuth doesn't work with latest Plasma. I've really not found anything good with Gnome, and the options like #sway and #hyprland require a bunch of time to configure and don't do things like remembering what to do when I plug in different external monitors like KDE does. I appreciate KDE's automation.
@Riedler This is timely. I'd been using #xmonad for years, but it doesn't work well with Wayland. #KDE #Plasma with #bismuth was good for me, but Bismuth doesn't work with the latest KDE. Hey Fediverse, i need to switch away from Hyprland. It is getting worse every month and the maintainer is a transphobic asshole. Also i now have glitchy pixel artifacts everywhere. So i am currently checking the alternatives. But i have some questions:
What is currently the best alternative compositor to hyprland that has the most feature parity? I wan´t a config based one and don´t want to write code to configure my compositor. My config is not that complicated.
Also i use those hyprland related packages. Do you know any alternatives?
- hyprpicker
- hyprcursor
- hypridle
- hyprlock
- hyprshot
Thank you in advance!

Installed #Fedora #Sway #Atomic today. Spent most of the day getting familiar with ostree and arguing with pam_mount (my fault). I dig it so far, the ability to rollback or rebase is pretty slick- did some intentional muck ups to rollback, and tried rebasing to Budgie (and back). I could see myself using this long term.
I’ve been working on a #freebsd from scratch blog post series and was going to skip right over Xorg (preferring #wayland and #sway)…and then I heard about #NSCDE - a reimplementation of #Solaris #CDE look-and-feel via #fvwm
Thanks to work by Christian Moerz, it was a snap. Literally `pkg install Xorg nscde` a change to my .xinitrc and I was up in a pastel bliss again. Run #interlisp on it is a beautiful joy.
I was so impressed AND I got to avoid abandonware security holes and bit rot— so I sent some librepay love. It’s a great project!

I use sway on intel graphics for a while now, and it seems the mouse pointer keeps disappearing for whatever reason, and it feels like it does so more often now.
I think Qt (keepassxc) seems to make it vanish for a while, especially when switching monitors and landing on keepassxc. But now firefox vanishes the pointer also, but I feel like some symbols are missing, especially the drag-symbol? I don't know anymore.
Does anyone have similar problems?
Been trying out #SwayFX the last few days - been using #Sway for 1-2 years now - and the (eye candy) features are nice!
Now the only thing I'm missing is nice transitional fades like I had with i3+compton when I was still using #X11 :)
But I just want to stick with #Wayland since it gets better with every day :)
