@defanor AFAIK there is no fully bidirectional channel<->MUC bridge, but Biboumi will allow XMPP users to join an IRC channel and will have a mostly-native feel for both sides (/whois and some channel operator things from the XMPP side are slightly awkward). It's maintained at codeberg.org/poezio/biboumi

I've been using it for years and even gave up irssi in favor of poezio+biboumi

You can set up a dedicated instance for your ircd and let users join via e.g. #support@irc.prosody.tld

Chronic Pain Tip #24: After your pain has flared up, you've talked about it with your medical team and those individuals you trust for emotional support let it go. Guess who is exploiting and taking advantage of my vulnerability and trust? My uncle. He can use any of my mistakes that he finds to justify bullying and mocking me. I don't even have money to pay for his liquid petroleum gas for cooking. I am really sad, and no one cares. I am still a student with so many debts that I can't pay. It's around RM50,000. What does he expect? Taking advantage of me? Using my inability to pay his bills and for LPG, and when I'm at my worst, it's time for him to kick me out of his house. I am actually homeless. But that terribly destroyed house doesn't count. My father wanted me to stay at my uncle's house for stable electricity. #FamilyIssues #Struggle #Support #Homeless #StudentLife #Debt #EmotionalAbuse #Bullying #Vulnerability #Trust #Hope #Vent #MentalHealth #IAmTheProduct #MutualAid #NoOneCares

I need your help in an a perhaps unusual IT support matter. Since the mid 80s (when we got our first "personal computer") I have been supporting my parents in IT matters. Initially I had to come by when they had issues, before the internet got reliable enough to connect via VPN/VNC. We had an agreement, that I was allowed to take over his PC remotely, without any interaction from his side.

When he got older, I "had to" take away privileges on his PC in stages, as he stared to cause random issues, which took a lot of both of our time. Another step was to replace his wifi printer with a wired one, as the connection became so dodgy, that on a daily basis I had to troubleshoot from an 800 km distance. As long I had a decent network connection I was basically to do everything.

Now, at the age of 89, he is starting to get more and more issues / difficulties with his (android) phone. As with his PC I would like to be able to help him, but as I can't take over his phone like his PC, it is not as eay. We have been trying to use Jitsi, where there is an option to do screensharing, but he is struggling enabling this. The concept of going into a meeting room and then choose options to share his screen has proven to be too difficult.

So, I'm looking for a possibility to view his screen without too much interaction from his side. I know, this sounds quite like stalker-ware, but this is basically the only way I would be able to help him with issues on his phone. Even on his age he is trying to keep everything going and I'm very much willing to support him in that, but it is getting pretty challenging.

Are there any apps that would provide in such a use case? Thanks a lot for your help! Boosting would be appreciated. 🙏
