Paul<p>A fresh belt can help with a stuck CD-ROM transport.
Still trying to get this sun ultra 5 to boot off install medium - turns out it will support DVD drives, but will only boot from ones that support 512 block transfers (which I now gather mine does not). At least I got the old CD drive working.<br><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retroComputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retroComputing</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/SunSPARC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SunSPARC</span></a></p>

jhamby<p>Hello, Mastodon! I’m going to start posting to this account about my current <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/NetBSD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NetBSD</span></a> / <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/PowerMac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PowerMac</span></a> / <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/SunSPARC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SunSPARC</span></a> / C++ hobby projects. Up to 500 characters per post and less distraction.</p><p>Currently I'm struggling with NetBSD 9.3's kernel crashing on my Mac mini G4. It boots from a USB stick but panics with an ISI trap (trying to jump to unmapped code) very early on. I'm looking at the MPC7447A chip errata now for clues. Also, this thread from July 2012 has a few clues: <a href="https://mail-index.netbsd.org/current-users/2012/07/27/msg020723.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">mail-index.netbsd.org/current-</span><span class="invisible">users/2012/07/27/msg020723.html</span></a></p>
