D#24 (2024-10-20) #SorryWereClosed #demo

New #SteamNextFest, so I'm dipping into some interesting demos again.

First one's on-theme for Halloween: a cool, stylized #VideoGame (a colorful evolution of the chunky PlayStation 1 style) that exists somewhere on the edge between #SurvivalHorror and #PsychologicalHorror.

Our hero, Michelle, is a #sapphic lady who seems to have some sort of demonic encounter and ends up solving puzzles in a twisted world while fighting or evading strange monsters.

Michelle is standing in front of a computer as a "You used the staff ID Card" prompt appears at the top of the screen and a message at the bottom informs you that "the power has been restored. The trains should be running again now." This is the end of a sequence where Michelle (i.e. the player) must evade an unkillable monster while searching for the tools necessary to use the computer. You also get to kill numerous smaller monsters with an "arsenal" that consists of an axe, a pistol and a shotgun, which all have eyes and look/sound like they're alive.

I played the demo of "Sorry, We're Closed" and um wow! It's super refreshing, and a really interesting take on survival horror. I found the combat a little difficult/clunky, which is a staple of the genre, but I hope they'll do something about it... it's not super bad, I'm just not a fan of that aspect of classic survival games!

Oh, and C. Bedford's art *shines* in this. Finally someone brave enough to give us the hot pink protagonist we deserve!
