RationalWiki<p>Edward Osborne (E. O.) Wilson was an American biologist, zoologist, naturalist, ecologist, and entomologist, known for developing the field of <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/sociobiology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sociobiology</span></a>, the primary forerunner of evolutionary psychology. Wilson also pioneered the field of island biogeography.</p><p>Wilson was well-known and almost universally loved and admired. In the introduction to the PBS documentary about Wilson, he was described as "one of America’s greatest living thinkers". The Sarasota Herald-Tribune called him "A Hero of the Planet." Leonardo DiCaprio tweeted that he was "the Darwin of the 20th Century." But more controversially, Wilson supported some racialist ideas that live on in the modern-day so-called human biodiversity movement, and some have long claimed Wilson's sociobiology amounts to <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/hereditarianism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hereditarianism</span></a> and biological determinism. </p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/eowilson" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>eowilson</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/racialism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>racialism</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/humanbiodiversity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>humanbiodiversity</span></a><br><a href="https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/E._O._Wilson" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">rationalwiki.org/wiki/E._O._Wi</span><span class="invisible">lson</span></a></p>
