My FOSDEM 2025 social web lightning talk is out!
Elk: A Nimble Client for Mastodon - FOSDEM 2025 | https://ayos.blog/elk-fosdem-2025
@askans My pleasure!
Yes, they all work wonderfully with #GoToSocial, no complaints whatsoever.
Since GtS doesn't have an official web client, we're lucky to have so much choice.
I saw a presentation at #SocialWebFOSDEM about @elk - it had not been on my radar before - tried it out, and it has fast become my favorite web client for GtS. It reminds me of the old Twitter (RIP) interface
For those who missed my closing talk at #FOSDEM on the #SocialWebFOSDEM track (which was part of the "After Hours" event), I've recorded a standalone version. Feel free to boost for reach - and also share with civic institutions and community leaders. #FediverseForFreedom
Social Web FOSDEM Wrap-up and Next Steps
It's been more than a week since the last event at #SocialWebFOSDEM, and I'm just now getting to writing up some summary thoughts and follow-on notes. We had three big planned events at FOSDEM, so there is an overwhelming amount to think about, and take-aways to discuss. The biggest take-away for me was: we needed this. The Social Web developer community came together in person for the first time in a while, and it was remarkably fruitful. For those who weren't able to attend in person, or […]https://socialwebfoundation.org/2025/02/10/social-web-fosdem-wrap-up-and-next-steps/
I got back home from the amazing #SocialWebFOSDEM and while I am drafting a “Build Your Own Timeline Algorithm” blog post to follow up on my talk I decided to keep the momentum going with a thread about it. You'll find my code at https://github.com/aittalam/byota and the talk slides here: https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event/fosdem-2025-5601-build-your-own-timeline-algorithm/ (a video with the recording of the talk should be available soon too). Now let’s dig into #BYOTA!
Good morning Fedi friends! Please don't mind me as I self-host yet another Fediverse software
I haven't been able to stop thinking about #Friendica since I watched @Tobias 's presentation at #SocialWebFosdem. It reminded of all the reasons why I fell in love with it last summer.
I stopped using it in Sep, as I experimented with other projects (hello #Sharkey) but I wanna try it again. It's so advanced in many ways.
#selhosting is my coping mechanism during these dystopian times
level 5 emergency
I just logged onto my #YunoHost admin dashboard to see how many resources a self-hosted #Friendica instance would require.
Aw just 50M RAM, 50M disk. Say whaaaaaaat?!?
I think I know what I'll do first thing Monday morning... after I back up my YunoHost setup
I "blame" this on @Tobias@social.diekershoff.de and his superb talk at #SocialWebFosdem: "Friendica - under the radar since 2010".
His presentation's slides are available here: https://git.fsfe.org/tobiasd/talks/src/branch/master/20240201-FOSDEM-Friendica.under.the.radar.since.2010-en.pdf
Who do i have to thank for the cold ?
Back at Home !
I was pleased to see you offline.
Leaving Brussels for Montréal with my heart full of appreciation for this awesome #SocialWeb community and mind full of plans for the future. I will have a wrapup blog post soon, but I know I want this #SocialWebFosdem party to keep rolling.
For those who were unable to attend this past weekend's Social Web After Hours event held at HackerSpace Brussels (@hsbxl@mastodon.online), I've uploaded a re-recording of my presentation, which you can check out here! Sadly, there was no live recording of the rather lively session, so you'll just have to take my word for it

If you're looking for just the slides, you can get them here as well
Thank you @deadsuperhero@social.wedistribute.org for the PeerTube instance!

Which part(s) of #SocialWebFOSDEM did you like?
@surf this is exciting! /cc #SocialWebFOSDEM folks
It was an honour and pleasure to close out the #SocialWebFOSDEM programming last night with #FediverseForFreedom, based on my blog post of the same title last year. Let’s build together this year, and return to share our progress at #FOSDEM in 2026 #fediverse
